본 연구는 여성결혼이민자들에게 보다 효과적이고 재미있는 한국어 말하기 수업을 제안하고자 하는 마음에서 시작되었다. 여성결혼이민자들의 한국어 말하기 능력을 향상시키고자 말하기 수업을 효과적으로 할 수 있는 수업 방안을 구성하였고 이를 위한 2가지 제재로 전래동화와 스토리 리텔링을 선택하였다.
전래동화는 여성결혼이민자들에게 한국 문화를 이해할 수 있게 해주는 계기가 되고 가정 내에서 아이들에게 들려줄 수 있다는 점에서 여성결혼이민자를 대상으로 하는 수업에 효과적이다. 또한 구연을 바탕으로 한다는 점에서 말하기 수업에도 가장 효과적인 제재라고 할 수 있다. 스토리 리텔링은 학습자들에게 수업에 대한 강한 동기 부여를 할 수 있고 이야기 구성 능력과 말하기 능력을 향상시킬 수 있다는 측면에서 효과적인 수업 방법이다. 따라서 전래동화와 스토리 리텔링을 활용한 수업은 여성결혼이민자들의 말하기 능력 향상에 가장 효과적인 수업 방안이라고 볼 수 있다.
따라서 이러한 선행연구들을 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 ‘전래동화 스토리 리텔링을 활용한 한국어 말하기 수업 방안’을 제시하였고 이 수업이 과연 여성결혼이민자를 대상으로 하는 실제 수업에서 효과가 있는지를 검증해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 실제 여성결혼이민자 고급반 수강생들을 대상으로 수업한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.
첫째, 전래동화를 활용한 수업은 여성결혼이민자 수업에 적합하다.
둘째, 교사 중심이 아닌 학습자 중심의 수업이 가능하다.
셋째, 전래동화 스토리 리텔링 수업은 추후 학습자들이 실생활에 접목시킬 수 있는 다양한 연계 활동이 가능하다.
넷째, 스토리 리텔링 수업은 여성결혼이민자들의 말하기 능력 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다.
이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서 제시한 ‘전래동화 스토리 리텔링을 활용한 한국어 말하기 수업 방안’이 여성결혼이민자들을 대상으로 하는 한국어 말하기 수업에게 효과적이라는 연구 문제에 대한 답을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 앞으로 더 다양한 학습자를 대상으로 하는 말하기 수업 방안의 연구들이 이뤄지기를 기대해본다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a teaching model using story retelling with Korean traditional fairy tale for female marriage immigrants. Recently, the female marriage immigrants are increasing in Korea. The female marriage immigrants are eager to communicate with their family without a language barrier. But in fact, it is no easy matter to speak fluently in Korean. Above all, they need to learn about speaking skills of Korean. To improve their Korean speaking abilities, this study chose two methods. One is Korean traditional fairy tale, the other is story retelling.
Korean traditional fairy tale can play an important part in teaching Korean to multicultural families. Stories give learners who study Korean interest, enjoyment and meaningful contexts. Especially for female marriage immigrants, Korean traditional fairy tale is a good resource material for the cultural understanding and the real use of the language. In this respect, the traditional fairy tale is very effective to both female marriage immigrants and their children.
Also, story retelling is a great resource material to improve speaking ability of Korean. Basically, Story retelling is based on communication. Therefore story retelling can help learners to speak more.
As a result, this study suggests the effective teaching model based on these two methods for Korean speaking. The results of the study are as follows.
First, the teaching model using Korean traditional fairy tale is effective to female marriage immigrants.
Second, this teaching model clearly shows that it is possible to manage the class on the learner-centered education.
Third, the teaching model using story retelling with Korean traditional fairy tale improved learners’ speaking abilities.
Fourth, the teaching model using story retelling with the traditional fairy tale can have a positive, valuable and substantive influence especially on female marriage immigrants. They can draw on their knowledge to practical use by telling stories to their children.
In conclusion, story retelling is an effective way for Korean speaking education and Korean traditional fairy tale is a great resource material for the cultural understanding and the real use of the language. Therefore this teaching model using story retelling with the traditional fairy tale can be a meaningful and suitable for female marriage immigrants.
Lastly, since there is a limit on this study and there have not been much research on this, it would be necessary to have further research for verifying the effectiveness of teaching method suggested in the study.
