한국어를 제2언어로 배우려는 학습자들이 늘어남에 따라 효율적으로 한국어 어휘를 지도할 수 있는 방법에 관한 연구가 활발해지고 있다. 외국어 학습자에게 어휘 교육은 매우 중요하다. 특히 학습자가 중․고급으로 올라갈수록 많은 어휘를 배우는데 유창하게 표현을 하기 위해서는 어휘의 양뿐 아니라 질적인 면이 중요하다. 학습자들은 이미 모국어에서 어휘의 내적 구조를 습득한 상태이기 때문에 한국어의 단어 형성 원리인 파생법을 교육한다면 학습자가 한국어의 어휘 구조를 보다 쉽게 이해할 수 있고, 보다 많은 어휘를 효율적으로 학습할 수 있을 것이다. 이에 본고에서는 어휘의 체계를 활용한 어휘 학습법의 하나인 파생법을 이용하여 어휘 교육 방안을 제시하고자 한다.
본 연구는 한국어 어휘 교육에서 활용할 수 있는 파생어와 접사를 알아보고, 교육 방법을 연구하는 데 목적이 있다.
먼저 조남호(2003)의 어휘 평정 순위 5,965개의 어휘 중에서 접사가 사용된 파생어를 추출하여 접사를 급별로 정리하고, 추출된 접사를 효과적으로 제시할 수 있도록 접사의 의미와 기능에 따라 분류하였다. 접두사는 의미별로 나누고, 접미사는 의미를 바꾸어주는 것과 문법 범주를 바꾸는 것으로 나누어 품사별, 의미별로 나누었다.
학습 용이성을 고려하여 한자어일 경우 자립성을 가진 어근에 붙은 접사가 자립성이 없는 어근에 붙어 동일한 의미로 쓰일 경우 접사로 보고, 교육 어휘에 포함시켰다.
어휘 평정 순위 5,965개의 어휘 중에서 접두 파생어의 수보다는 접미 파생어의 수가 훨씬 더 많은 것을 볼 수 있고, 초급보다는 중․고급으로 갈수록 파생어의 수가 많아졌다. 어휘 등급에서 순차적으로 나오는 접미사들이 많으므로 등급별 어휘 확장을 통한 접사 교육이 가능하다.
교육 방법으로는 각 접사별 특징을 살린 어휘 교육과 접사의 의미를 활용한 다양한 교육 활동으로 나누어 교육 원리를 제시한 후 실제적인 교육 방법을 제안하였다.
이와 같은 파생법을 활용한 어휘 교육은 한국어 어휘 학습에 도움이 되리라 생각한다. 앞으로 파생법을 활용한 다양한 어휘 교육 방법이 연구되고, 파생법을 활용한 어휘 교재가 만들어지기를 기대한다.

As a number of learners willing to learn Korean as a second foreign language are increasing, researches for the effective methods of teaching Korean vocabulary are flourishing. A vocabulary education is very important for foreign learners. Especially quality of the vocabulary is important as well as quantity in order to express fluently as the learners are promoted to intermediate and advance grades. They have already learned the inner structure of a vocabulary of their native language, they will be able to understand Korean vocabulary structure easier, and learn many more vocabulary effectively if they learn a derivation method-Korean words formation principles. Thus, in this study, I would like to suggest a vocabulary education plan using the derivation method, one of the approaches to learn vocabulary base on the vocabulary system.
This study is to research derivative words and an affix for Korean vocabulary education and its education method.
In my research, I arranged the affix classified by level abstracting the derivative words with the affix among the vocabulary rating ranking of 5,965 vocabularies by Namho Cho(2003), and I established a standard considering meaning and function of the affix in order to suggest the abstracted affix effectively. I classified a suffix into changing meanings and changing grammar ranges, and arranged them by a part of speech and meaning.
Considering the learning facilitation, in case of words written in Chinese characters, I look upon the affix when the affix attached to a radix with independent are used as same meaning by attaching to a dependent radix, and included it in the education vocabulary.
Among the 5,965 vocabularies, I found numbers of the suffix derivative words that are more than the prefix derivative words, and there are more derivative words as the intermediate and advance levels rather than beginning level. As there are many suffixes progressively in vocabulary levels, the affix education is possible through vocabulary expansion by levels.
For the education method, I presented the education principles through the vocabulary education with featuring each affix, and suggested the practical education method.
I believe the vocabulary education using the derivation method is helpful for learning Korean vocabularies. I expect more various vocabulary education methods and vocabulary teaching materials using the derivation method for the future.
