세계화 정보화의 발달로 우리가 접하는 지식과 정보의 양은 엄청나다. 그 중 정말 유용하고 필요한 정보를 선택하는 일은 시간과 노력을 아끼기 위해 대단히 중요한 일이다. 늘 새로운 주제의 통역과 번역을 해야 하는 통번역사들에게 있어 유용한 표현 정리는 소중한 자산이다. 뿐만 아니라 정확한 정보의 분석과 전달, 그리고 효과적인 의사소통을 위해 보다 많은 배경지식과 다양한 표현을 습득해야 한다.

본 논문은 통• 번역을 함에 있어 보다 효과적이고 정확한 의미 전달을 위해 유용한 표현을 정리한 것이다. 특히 통• 번역을 하는 과정에서 한국어에 대응하는 영어표현을 신속하고 정확하게 찾는 일은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니기 때문이다. 그러나 같은 단어라 하더라도 문맥상 다른 의미를 지닐 수도 있다는 점을 감안하면 ‘단어 대 단어’ 식의 표현은 의미가 없다고 생각한다. 이에 실제로 통• 번역 현장에서 활용하기 용이한 문장 단위의 표현 방식을 선택했다. 이 논문에서는 통• 번역사 뿐만 아니라 영어를 공부하는 누구라도 유용하게 사용할 수 있는 정치, 경제, 사회, IT, 의료 등에 관련된 표현들과 실제 연설문에서 발췌한 표현들이 정리되어있다.

With the advancement of globalization and digitalization, the amount of knowledge and information we encounter in our daily lives is huge. Thus, selecting useful and necessary information among them is imperative to save time and efforts for would-be interpreters and translators. In particular, a collection of useful expressions is an valuable asset for interpreters and translators who always engage in new subjects through their jobs. In addition, they should learn various expressions and acquire a wide range of background knowledge to have effective communication with clients and to analyze and transmit information accurately.

This study is intended to research useful expressions for interpreters and translators, and those who want to learn English. By doing so, more effective and accurate communication can be possible. Finding the right expression for the right moment is not easy at all. At the same time, I believe that ‘word for word’ translation is meaningless in that even the same word can carry different connotation in context. So I tried to introduce expressions in the context of sentence. Expressions in this study can be used to describe various areas, including politics, economy, society, information and technology, and medicine.
