본 연구는 한국여성과 결혼한 남성결혼이민자의 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 찾고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다.
흔히 결혼이민자 하면 여성결혼이민자 만을 떠올릴 정도로 그동안 연구와 정책의 관심에서 남성결혼이민자들은 소외되고 있다. 그러나 물리적인 수치로도 남성결혼이민자의 존재는 입증되고 더불어 그들 역시 국가의 소중한 인적자원으로 자리 잡고 있다. 현대의 다양한 가족형태 중의 한가지로 자리매김한 결혼이민자가족의 행복이 곧 국가의 행복으로 이어진다는 관점에서 그들의 결혼만족 요인을 찾는 것은 그 자체로서 학문적 의의를 가지지만 구체적인 정책의 기초자료로 활용할 수 있는 의의도 있다.
연구목적을 위해 외국인남편의 인구사회학적 요인인 출신국, 부부나이차, 교육수준, 종교, 사회적 자원인 지지자, 소득수준, 가족관으로 결혼이유, 성역할태도, 국제결혼요인으로 부부생활 중에 느끼는 문화차이, 외국인남편의 한국말실력을 관련변인으로 설정하고 결혼만족과의 관계를 분석하였다.
연구방법은 기존의 결혼만족과 국제결혼 및 이주여성에 관한 문헌을 고찰한 후 관련변인을 선정하였다. 분석자료는 경기도가족여성개발원에서 2006년에 실시한 경기도내 국제결혼 이민자가족 실태조사 및 정책적 지원방안 연구 중 한국인여성과 결혼한 외국인남편 203명의 설문내용을 원자료로 사용하였다.
자료분석방법은 빈도분석으로 남성결혼이민자의 특성을 살펴보고 관련변인들과 결혼만족간의 교차분석을 통하여 유의도를 구하여 두 변수간의 의미를 측정하였다.
분석결과 외국인남편의 한국말실력, 지지자, 가정내 성역할태도, 부부생활 중 느끼는 문화차이가 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
이상의 연구결과가 가지는 실천적 함의는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 외국인남편의 한국말실력을 위해서 이제까지의 민간단체의 자원봉사형식으로 실시되어온 한글교실을 정부나 지방자치단체 차원에서 체계적으로 실시하고 한국어교사도 언어교육 초기의 중요성을 감안하여 전문교육과정을 통하여 역량을 강화시키고 교육교재도 교육현장의 여건에 맞게 제작하여야한다. 둘째, 외국인남편의 지지자가 한국인부인일 경우 한국생활적응의 정보획득 등 가장 큰 도움을 받을 것으로 생각되어 배우자 역할인식의 중요성을 강조하고 아울러 같은 출신국의 자조그룹에 적극 참여를 유도하도록 해야 하겠다. 셋째, 외국인남편의 가정생활 중 성역할태도와 관련하여 부부간의 친밀감을 높이기 위해 전국에 80개 결혼이민자가족센터에서는 결혼이민자 당사자만이 아닌 부부나 확대가족인 시부모까지 포함한 가족단위의 결속력을 높이는 각종 상담 및 프로그램을 개발 운영하여야 하겠다. 넷째, 외국인남편이 부부사이에 느끼는 문화차이와 관련 문화차이를 가장 느끼는 부분이 음식으로 나타나 남편 출신국의 음식을 부부가 같이 배우고 또 같은 출신국의 남편친구들을 가정으로 초대하여 지지자 역할까지 하면 좋을 것 같다. 문화를 수용하는 부부간의 태도도 어느 한쪽으로 동화되기를 바라지 말고 서로의 정체성을 인정하고 통합하는 태도로 조화가 될 때 결혼만족을 높이는 요소가 될 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to examine what factors affected the marriage satisfaction of male immigrants who married Korean women.
When it comes to immigrants who got married to Korean people, they just think of female immigrants, and male immigrants have usually been ruled out when relevant research and national policies are pushed ahead. However, the number of male immigrants whose wives are Korean cannot be overlooked any more, and they are evidently part of legitimate national human resources available. A multicultural family is taking root as one of various family forms in modern society, and the happiness of multicultural families leads to that of the nation. It is very worth doing academically to look into what affects the conjugal satisfaction between immigrants and their Korean spouses, and that will contribute to formulating better national policies at the same time.
The demographic variables of immigrant husbands selected in this study were native country, age gap with wife, academic background and religion. The selected social resources variables were supporters and income level, and the selected family view variables were the motivation of marriage and sex-role attitude. The variables related to international marriage were cultural gap with wife and Korean language skills. And the relationship of those variables to their marriage satisfaction was explored.
After literature of marriage satisfaction, international marriage and immigrant women was reviewed, the relevant variable were selected. The raw materials analyzed in this study were the results of a survey on 203 foreign husbands marrying Korean women conducted by Gyeonggido Family & Women Development Institute in 2006 in an effort to check the state of multicultural families in that region and provide appropriate support.
A frequency analysis was carried out to find out the characteristics of the married male immigrants, and crosstabulation was utilized to see if there was any significant link between the selected variables and marriage satisfaction.
As a result, it's found that the Korean language ability of the foreign husbands, supporters, their sex-role attitude at home and cultural gap with wives had an impact on their marriage satisfaction.
The findings of the study had the following implications:
First, Korean education was provided to the foreign husbands by volunteers who belonged to private organizations. Now, the national or local governments should take the responsibility for that by offering systematic Korean education in order to improve their Korean language ability. Given the importance of the initial stage in language education, teachers who instruct the Korean language should bolster their teaching ability by receiving specialized education, and textbooks should be prepared in consideration of the given conditions. Second, as for supporters, it seems that foreign husbands who are properly backed by Korean wives are able to acquire more information and fit the best into Korean society. Therefore the importance of role awareness on the side of spouses shouldn't be underestimated, and foreign husbands also should seek help from other people who are from the same country as them. Third, in terms of sex-role attitude, 80 Transnational Marriage Family-Support Centers in the nation should develop and provide all sorts of counseling and programs for not only immigrants but their spouses and even parents-in-law to have a strong bond with one another, and the couples should be helped to fortify their conjugal intimacy as well. Fourth, concerning cultural gap with wives, the foreign husbands felt that there were the widest cultural gap with their wives in terms of food. It will be advisable for foreign husbands and Korean wives to learn how to cook the ethnic food of the husbands together, or the wives could invite their native friends to serve as a supporter. They should approve of each other's identity and accept mutual culture instead of merely expecting the adaptation of the other side. The effort to become one in harmony will let them lead a satisfactory life together.
