현대사회에서 도시 내 녹지는 생태적 기능을 담당하고 있다. 도시 내 숲은 이러한 녹지공간으로서의 기능을 넘어 도시민에게 여가, 휴식, 문화의 장으로서 활용되고 있다. 이로 인해 숲은 교... 현대사회에서 도시 내 녹지는 생태적 기능을 담당하고 있다. 도시 내 숲은 이러한 녹지공간으로서의 기능을 넘어 도시민에게 여가, 휴식, 문화의 장으로서 활용되고 있다. 이로 인해 숲은 교육의 장으로서 확대되어 다양한 체험활동을 제공하는 시설확충으로 숲체험 활동을 위주로 하는 자연친화 유아교육장으로 자리매김 하게 되는 계기가 되었다. 최근 숲체험 교육의 긍정적 효과가 알려지면서 유아교육의 대안으로 부각되어 정부가 정책적으로 확대ㆍ도입하고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 유아숲체험원이 유아의 올바른 성장을 위한 자연체험 교육의 장으로서 질적향상을 위한 조성방안 및 운영 개선방안을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 산림청에 의해 조성된 유아숲체험원 중 용인시에서 운영되고 있는 6개 유아숲체험원을 대상으로 2016년 7월에 시작하여 2016년 11월까지 진행하였다. 선행연구를 위한 문헌연구를 통하여 개념을 설정 하였고 관련 연구를 살펴보았다. 실제 용인시의 유아숲체험원 6곳의 현황조사 및 유아숲체험원 실무자들을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하여 도출한 결과는 다음과 같다. 대부분의 유아숲체험원은 하루동안 오전에 1회 운영하고 있으며, 2시간동안 운영되고 있었다. 대부분 유아숲체험원에 참가하는 형식은 MOU 협약체결을 통한 정기형 형태로 참가하였다. 특이한 점은 한 기관에서 찾아오는 아이들이 정기형일지라도 매번 같은 아이가 오는 경우는 드물고 내부적으로 반이 바뀌어 오는 특징을 갖고 있었다. 유아숲체험원은 자연체험위주의 공간에 부합되는 유아체험 시설물을 도입하고 체험 프로그램을 운영하고 있었다. 프로그램이 진행되는 야외체험 학습공간, 놀이시설물과 안전을 위한 대피공간, 안전시설과 편의를 위한 휴게시설, 화장실 등이 있었다. 프로그램 진행은 용인시에 소속된 유아숲지도사에 의해 운영되고 있었으며, 프로그램 형식은 통제와 제한은 최소화하며 프로그램의 종류와 내용은 다양하였다. 안전상의 이유로 지도인력이 충원대거나 소규모의 유아가 배치가 필요하며 주로 안전사항에 있어 이용이 제한 될 소지가 있는 시설의 설치에 신중해야 한다. 각 시설의 크기 간격에 있어 유아들의 체형을 고려한 설치가 필요하다. 또한 풍성한 자연요소로 다양한 화목류 식재 등이 필요하다 결론적으로 효율적인 프로그램 진행과 유아들의 안전을 도모하며, 창의력과 체육능력 향상 등을 위해서는 현 지형에 맞는 시설의 배치와 각 시설의 규모를 적정화 하는것이 필요하다고 판단된다. 즉 유아숲체험원의 질적향상을 위하여 용역 발주시 충분한 예산과 과업기간이 필요하며 적절한 공간의 규모와 시설에 대한 재정 지원과 안전에 대한 구체적인 인증기준이 마련되어야 할 것이다. 또한 효율적인 운영ㆍ관리를 위하여 운영인력 충원과 안전사항에 대한 지침서가 마련되어야 한다. 본 연구는 일정한 기간을 통해 실제 운영되고 있는 유아숲체험원 현황조사 및 실무자인 유아숲지도사 및 관련 지자체공무원, 숲체험원 설계자와 심도깊은 면담을 통해 작성한 결과이므로 향후 유아숲체험원의 조성 및 운영에 대한 방향설정에 기초적인 자료로 활용될 수 있다고 판단된다. 특히 이용자보다 운영자 중심의 자료가 부족한 상황에서 이용자는 점차 급증하고 있으므로 운영매뉴얼이나 설계지침으로서 지속적인 연구가 필요하다고 보여진다.
