Jojo Mayer has come up with and developed new ideas by applying the technique of sampling DJs' breakbeats to actual acoustic drums, creating a creative drumming style called reverse engineering. This study set out to investigate the reverse engineering drumming technique of Jojo Mayer, who has introduced new styles of drumming and music with the technique in his active live performances with his band Nerve, thus proposing a new drumming technique based on creative passage arrangements in a pattern structure. It also aimed to propose the reverse engineering drumming technique as a method of arrangement, do an experiment with musical effects expected in the application of reverse engineering technique to pop music, which enjoys great popularity among many people, to emphasize its practical aspects, and suggest a new method of arrangement with the changes of rhythmic structures based on the experiment results. For analysis purposes, the investigator selected Ulaan Bataar, Retox, 7even, Jabon and Syncopath in his first regular album Prohibited Beatz, which is known to present the best preservation of unique acoustic drum sound and the best expression of basic reverse engineering techniques of total nine albums that he has released with his band Nerve. The analysis results of the five pieces show that there were total six reverse engineering drumming techniques, which include rhythmic segmentation and recombination, repetition of minimum unit passages, temporary replacement of new rhythms or sections, rhythmic mutes with a rest, application of rudiments, and tempo and tone changes, which were excluded from the study to focus on the technical techniques of the drum with the remaining applied. As for their application to pop music, songs of Lee Mun-se (also spelled Lee Moon-sae or Lee Moon-se) were chosen, who is one of the most influential singers in the history of popular songs in Korea and one of the first performers in Korean pop music, to demonstrate the application effects and methods of reverse engineering techniques to pop music. The scope of analysis was narrowed down to the most popular songs of 160 songs in his 15 regular albums of total 35 albums he released from 1983 to 2015. After excluding ballads from his 30 hit songs, the investigator made a final choice of five songs characterized by fast tempo of BPM 110 or higher and monotonous rhythmic structure. They include The Blue Bird, Flying Deep into the Night, As You Live in This World, When You Look at Me, and Forgive, which was written by the investigator himself. The identified reverse engineering techniques were evenly applied to the five songs with one of them intensively applied to one of the songs to figure out their effects. The study delved into the effects of reverse engineering drumming techniques by applying rudiments to The Blue Bird, rhythmic mutes with a rest to Flying Deep into the Night, rhythmic segmentation and recombination to As You Live in This World, repetition of minimum unit passages to When You Look at Me, and temporary replacement of new rhythms or sections to Forgive. 조조 메이어(Jojo Mayer)는 DJ들의 브레이크비트(Breakbeat)를 샘플링(Sampling)하는 기법을 실제 어쿠스틱 드럼(Acoustic Drums)에 적용하는 방법을 통해 새로운 아이디어를 창안하고, 이를 발전시켰으며... 조조 메이어(Jojo Mayer)는 DJ들의 브레이크비트(Breakbeat)를 샘플링(Sampling)하는 기법을 실제 어쿠스틱 드럼(Acoustic Drums)에 적용하는 방법을 통해 새로운 아이디어를 창안하고, 이를 발전시켰으며, 리버스 엔지니어링(Reverse Engineering)이라는 이름을 붙인 창의적인 드럼 스타일을 만들게 되었다. 밴드 너브(Nerve)를 결성하여 리버스 엔지니어링 드럼 기법을 활용한 새로운 스타일의 드러밍과 음악으로 활발한 실황 연주를 진행하고 있는 조조 메이어의 리버스 엔지니어링 드럼 기법에 대한 연구를 통해 패턴 구조로 이루어진 구절의 창의적 배치를 활용한 새로운 드럼 기법을 도출해 내고자 한다. 또한 리버스 엔지니어링 드럼 기법을 편곡의 한 방법으로 제시하며 실용적인 측면을 강조하기 위해 많은 사람들에게 사랑받고 있는 팝음악에 리버스 엔지니어링 기법을 적용하여 수반되어질 수 있는 음악적 효과를 실험하고 도출된 결과를 통해 리듬의 구조 변화를 활용한 새로운 편곡의 방법을 제시하는 것이 목적이다. 조조 메이어가 밴드 너브로 발매한 총 9개의 앨범 중 어쿠스틱 드럼 고유의 사운드를 가장 잘 보존하고 있고, 리버스 엔지니어링의 원초적 기법들이 가장 잘 표현되어 있는 정규 1집 앨범인 『Prohibited Beatz』를 통해 분석곡 ‘Ulaan Bataar’, ‘Retox’, ‘7even’, ‘Jabon’, ‘Syncopath’ 이상 5곡을 선정한다. 이렇게 선정된 5곡을 분석해 도출된 리버스 엔지니어링 드럼 기법은 총 6가지이며 리듬의 분절 및 재조합, 최소 단위 구절의 반복, 새로운 리듬이나 섹션의 일시적 대체, 쉼표를 활용한 리듬 뮤트(Mute), 루디먼트(Rudiment)의 응용, 속도 및 음색 변화의 방법이다. 이 여섯 가지의 방법 중 속도 및 음색 변화는 드럼의 테크닉적인 기법에 집중하기 위해 제외하며 나머지 다섯 가지의 방법을 적용한다. 팝음악으로의 적용은 가수 이문세의 곡들로 이루어지는데, 한국의 대중가요에 가장 영향력 있는 가수 중 한 명이며, 한국 팝음악의 효시라고 할 수 있는 가수인 이문세의 곡들에 적용하여 팝음악에 리버스 엔지니어링 기법을 적용한 효과와 그 방법들을 증명한다. 1983년부터 2015년까지 발매된 총 35장의 이문세 앨범 중 정규 앨범 15장에 속한 160곡의 수록 곡 중에서 가장 대중적인 대표곡으로 범위를 좁힌다. 이렇게 좁힌 30여곡의 히트곡들 중 발라드를 제외하고 BPM 110이상인 빠른 템포의 단조로운 리듬구조를 가지는 곡들을 선별하여 ‘파랑새’, ‘깊은 밤을 날아서’, ‘이 세상 살아가다보면’, ‘그대 나를 보면’등 4곡과 자작곡 ‘Forgive’를 적용곡에 함께 포함해 5곡을 최종 선정한다. 도출된 리버스 엔지니어링 드럼 기법들을 적용곡들에 고르게 적용하되 곡마다 하나의 기법에 집중하여 그 효과를 도출한다. ‘파랑새’는 루디먼트의 응용 방법을, ‘깊은 밤을 날아서’는 쉼표를 활용한 리듬 뮤트 방법을, ‘이 세상 살아가다 보면’은 리듬의 분할 및 재조합방법을, ‘그대 나를 보면’은 최소단위 구절의 반복 방법을, ‘Forgive’는 새로운 리듬 섹션의 일시적 대체 방법을 적용해 리버스 엔지니어링 드럼 기법의 효과를 도출한다. 이렇게 도출한 효과들로 인해 리듬 편곡 기법의 새로운 대안을 제시한다. 키워드 : 조조 메이어, 리버스 엔지니어링 드럼 기법, 브레이크비트, 팝음악, 이문세 ，韩语毕业论文，韩语论文范文 |
