본 논문은 탄둔의 작품 <물의 수난곡>에 내재되어 있는 중국의 민족적 음색을 탐색하여 활용 방법을 도출하고, 중국 현대음악이 나아가야 할 방향을 찾는데 그 목적이 있다. 21세기는 ... 본 논문은 탄둔의 작품 <물의 수난곡>에 내재되어 있는 중국의 민족적 음색을 탐색하여 활용 방법을 도출하고, 중국 현대음악이 나아가야 할 방향을 찾는데 그 목적이 있다. 21세기는 다원화된 문화의 시대로, 현대음악 음색에 대해 작곡가들의 관심이 증대하고 있다. 이러한 음색에 대한 추구는 오늘날 현대음악이 발전할 수 있는 중요한 원동력이 되었으며, 중국 현대음악 음색과 전통음악은 매우 긴밀한 연관성을 갖게 되었다. 중국은 다민족 국가이고 한족을 포함해 56개의 소수민족으로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 다민족의 고유한 음악은 다양한 색채의 음악을 형성하고 있음에 따라 중국의 민족적 음색과 전통음악의 양자 간 음악적 특징을 찾는 것은 중요한 일이라 생각된다. 한 작곡가의 창작이념과 작곡기법은 시대가 흐름에 따라 점차 발전하고 고도화 되어가며 작품의 음색 특성에 매우 큰 영향을 미치게 된다. 이에 본 논문에서는 중국 현대음악의 시대적 흐름을 확인하고 <물의 수난곡>에 나타난 중국 민족적 음색의 활용 사례를 연구하였다. 작곡가 탄둔은 새로운 음악 사조의 위대한 선구자이며, 창의적 사고로 중국 민족 음색의 다원화된 특징을 작품 안에 발현함으로써, 음악을 통해 동서양의 융합 및 민족과 세계의 결합, 문화와 문화의 접점을 담아내었다. 따라서 본 연구자는 <물의 수난곡>에 나타난 현대음악의 음색간 발성방식, 발성매체, 소리형태, 소리의 의미에 관하여 각각의 역할을 도출하여 본 바, 중국 민족적 음색의 다원화적 활용 방법에 관해어 다음과 같은 결과를 확인하였다. 첫째, <물의 수난곡> 음악 형식의 구조에 있어서 동서양 음악의 형식과 문화를 전통적 기법과 효과적인 창작기법을 기초로 현대음악 언어로 결합시켰다. 둘째, <물의 수난곡>에는 중국의 민족적 음색의 차용과 더불어 서양악기를 사용함에 있어 중국 민족악기의 연주기법을 사용하였는 바, 특히 악기 음색중에 중국 호남성 무(巫)적 음색, 유기(有機) 음색, 티베트족 음색의 특징적인 요소를 음악에 활용하였다. 셋째, 존 케이지가“우리가 하는 모든 것이 음악”이라고 한 것처럼, 탄둔은 물, 돌, 도자기와 같은 유기적 음색을 재현하여 보임으로써 미래지향의 융합 음악과 새로운 음색을 표현할 특수 악기 사용의 가능성을 보여주었다. 이와 같이 탄둔의 <물의 수난곡>에 내재된 중국 민족적 음색 간 역할을 분석한 결과, 중국 전통적 음색의 다원화적 활용 가능성과, 현대화 작업의 음악적 색채를 확인할 수 있었으며, 동시에 현대음악 작업에 있어서의 중국 민족적 음색의 실질적 활용 사례를 파악할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구는 중국 현대음악의 다원화적 발전에도 상당부분 기여할 것으로 확신한다.
