인간의 삶 속의 모든 것은 다양한 형태의 기록으로 남는다. 기록은 오랜시간이 흐른 뒤 당시의 모습을 예측하게 하는 중요한 매체가 된다. 기록의 한 방식인 미술은 문자가 기록하지 못한 시... 인간의 삶 속의 모든 것은 다양한 형태의 기록으로 남는다. 기록은 오랜시간이 흐른 뒤 당시의 모습을 예측하게 하는 중요한 매체가 된다. 기록의 한 방식인 미술은 문자가 기록하지 못한 시대 속 모습을 시각적으로 알려주는 역할을 한다. 특히 미술의 한 양식인 도자는 영구적인 수명을 갖는 특성이 있어 당대의 모습을 기록 할 수 있다. 본 연구자가 주목한 것은 현대인의 ‘흡연 문화’이다. 각박한 생활의 고단함을 풀어 주는 기호품으로서 ‘흡연(吸煙)’은 현대인의 생활 문화를 보여주는 중요한 매개체가 되고 있다. 흡연은 비흡연자에게 공해, 건강, 인권 등의 문제를 유발하며 타인에게 피해를 주기도 하지만 흡연자에게는 정신적 스트레스(Stress) 해소와 휴식 등 긍정적인 의미가 있다. 본 연구자는 비흡연자(非吸煙者)의 관점에서 흡연을 이해하지 못한다. 그러나 오늘날 현대인에게 흡연에 대한 의미가 특별하다는 것을 알고 흡연의 이유와 타당성을 긍정적으로 바라보고자 노력하였다. 그리고 흡연자들의 삶의 이야기를 경청하고, 그들의 모습을 관찰하는 과정을 작품으로 표현, 기록하고자 하였다. 본문의 내용은 다음과 같다. II 장에서는 기록의 매체로서 미술의 특성과 도자의 특성을 살펴본다. 기록의 이론적 정의를 살펴보고 미술이 기록으로서 어떻게 기능 하는지 예시 작품들을 바탕으로 그 특징에 관하여 고찰하였다. 또한, 기록의 매체로서 도자의 특성을 예시 작품을 바탕으로 연구하였다. 그리고 연구 작품의 주제가 되는 흡연 문화를 탐구하였다. 흡연의 정의와 역사에 대하여 살펴보고 현대 흡연 문화에 관하여 연구하였다. 또한, 흡연 문화가 기록된 미술 작품을 살펴보았다. III 장에서는 연구 작품의 제작 배경과 과정, 표현과 의미에 관하여 서술하였다. 작품의 제작 배경은 흡연자인 아버지에 대한 존중과 사랑이다. 애연가인 아버지로 인하여 흡연에 관심을 두게 되었으며, 흡연을 주제로 나누었던 그와의 대화를 오래도록 간직하고자 영속적인 특성이 있는 도자를 재료로 하게 되었다. 또한, 작품의 주제를 발전시켜 다양한 흡연자들의 이야기를 반영하게 되었다. 연구 작품은 흡연자를 대상으로 한 인터뷰에서 키워드를 추출하여 조형화하는 과정으로 제작된다. Ⅳ 장에서는 본문의 내용을 정리하고 연구를 통한 결론을 도출하였다.본론의 연구를 통하여 연구자는 현대인에 삶 속에서 흡연이 갖는 의미가 특별하다는 것을 알게 되었고 그 내용을 주제로 한 연구 작품의 발전 방향에 관하여 서술하였다.

In particular, ceramic art, a form of art, is permanent in nature and is a form of recording contemporary life of past era. The research focuses on the modern 'smoking culture'. As a form of stress relief, smoking is a 'want' and is an important medium that shows part of modern living culture. Smoking causes problems of pollution , health, and human rights for non-smokers but for smokers, it carries a positive meaning of stress relief and rest. The researcher is a non-smoker and does not approach the study from smoker's perspective. However, the researcher understands the importance of smoking to smokers and tries to view the reasons for smoking and the rationality for smoking from a positive perspective. The research listens to smoker's life stories and tries to transform the journey of observing smokers' lives into an art. The contents of the main argument is as follows. Chapter 2 looks at the nature of art and the nature of the ceramic as a medium of recording. It examines the theoretical definition of recording and how art functions as a recording through observation sample artworks with respect to their characteristics. In addition, it studies the properties of ceramic as a recording medium through observation sample artworks. Then it explores the smoking culture which is the subject of research work. Chapter 3 describes about the background of the research work and production processes, expression and meaning. The background for production is the respect and love for smoker father. Having a smoker father led to the researcher's interest in smoking and in an effort to record conversations with the father, ceramic art which has a permanent nature was chosen as material. The topic of the research has then been developed to reflect life stories of various smokers. The research work is produced by the process of extracting keywords from interviews conducted with smokers than developed into a particular form. Chapter 4 summarizes the content of the main argument and draw conclusions through research.
