본 연구는 국내 대학의 이공계 전공 목적 외국인 유학생의 증가추이에 발맞추어 일반목적 한국어 교육만으로 부족한 전공 어휘 교육에 대한 관심으로부터 시작되었다. 따라서 이공계 개별 전공분야 중 유학생 수가 가장 많은 공학 공동 전공교재를 중심으로 어휘를 선별, 공학계 유학생을 위한 어휘 목록을 작성하여 실제 수업에서 제시하고자 하였다. 1,2장에서는 특수목적 언어 교육과 한국어 교육에서의 어휘 교육의 방향들을 살피고 이를 중심으로 이공계 전공 목적 외국인 유학생을 위한 어휘 교육의 목적을 제시하였다. 3,4장에서는 연구 목적을 구체화 시키고 분석 자료를 선정, 빈도수를 기준으로 전공기초어휘와 전공심화 어휘로 나누어 부록을 통해 어휘 목록을 제시하였다. 5장에서는 어휘 교육이론을 중심으로 실제 수업 모형을 제시해 보았다. 이공계 전공 어휘는 한자어와 외래어의 비중이 높아 효과적인 교육을 위해 한자 어휘와 외래어 어휘 목록을 작성 어휘 확장, 연계 교육방안을 제시하였다. 어휘 목록을 교재색인목록을 중심으로 작성하여 부족한 점이 있지만 차후에 전공서적, 강의록, 논문 등에 대한 어휘 분석이 더하여진다면 더 효과적인 자료로 사용 될 수 있을 것이라고 생각되며, 이 어휘 목록을 이용하여 언어권별로 교육하는 방안에 대한 연구도 이루어지길 바란다.

Vocabulary Education for foreign students who will study engineering
Concerns about the lack of vocabulary training course on majors led to this study. It is especially needed because more and more foreign students choose to study natural sciences and engineering in Korean local colleges. A list of selected vocabulary, therefore, which is from common books of engineering is what I try to present as a guide for actual classes. This list is for students majoring in engineering since they comprise a large proportion among foreign students. In chapters 1 and 2, you will find ways of vocabulary education in special purpose language education and Korean education. They will form the basis of vocabulary education objectives for foreign students of engineering. Chapters 3 and 4 give a concrete form of study purposes, make a choice of analysis materials, divide them into basic words and advanced words according to frequency, and make a suggestion about lists in the appendix. You will be presented with an actual class model focusing on the theory of vocabulary education. Due to great importance of Sino-Korean words and loanwords, I made a proposal of extending and connecting vocabulary using lists of Sino-Korean words and loanwords. Though the list from indexes might leave much to be desired at the moment, more vocabulary from respective textbooks, lecture notes, and theses will make this much useful instrument. It is hoped that a further study on teaching according to learner’s languages is made.
