본 논문의 연구 목적은 원만한 의사소통을 위해서는 발음 교육이 중요한데 정확한 발음을 하기 위해서는 초분절적 요소들 중 영어 강세를 학습해야 한다는 데 있다.
한국어의 음운체계에서는 중요성이 떨어지는 초분절적 요소가 영어에서는 큰 의미차이를 갖기 때문에 의사소통을 위해서는 반드시 초분절적 요소의 중요성을 인식하고 습득해야 한다. 의사소통을 위한 구어에서는 화자의 본래의 의도나 의미를 정확히 전달하는 것이 필수적인 요소이다. 다른 언어에 비해 영어는 특히 초분절적 자질들이 복잡하게 얽혀 발화되므로 원활한 의사소통을 위해서는 이러한 자질들의 습득이 중요하다.
한국어에서는 강세가 변별력을 갖지 못하므로 한국인 학습자들은 영어 강세에 많은 주의를 기울이지 못하여 의사전달에 어려움을 겪는다. 이 논문에서는 한국어에서는 별로 중요하지 않은 강세가 영어에서는 커다란 의미차이를 가져오는 중요한 자질이 된다는 것을 학습자들에게 인지시키고 또 영어 강세 학습의 중요성을 서술하였다.
한국어 강세와 영어 강세의 비교를 통해서 한국인 학습자가 실수하기 쉬운 오류들을 유형별로 분석하였다. 본 논문에서는 강세 오류의 유형별 분석을 통해서 한국인의 영어 강세 학습의 효율적 지도 방안을 모색하고 한국인이 강세 오류 방지를 위한 강세의 일반적인 규칙과 패턴을 쉽게 습득할 수 있는 방법들을 제시하였다.

This aims to show why we should study English stress in suprasegmentals for accurate pronunciation when teaching pronunciation is important for smooth communication. In the Korean language, suprasegmentals are important, whereas in the English language, they make significant differences in meanings. Therefore, we need to understand the importance of suprasegmentals and learn them for effective communication. In verbal communication, suprasegmentals are essential in order to deliver speakers' original intentions and meanings. Suprasegmentals are related to each other in a complex way in English compared to other languages. Therefore, it is important to learn Englisg suprasegmentals for smooth communication.
In Korean, stress does not make significant differences in meaning. So English learners in Korea experience difficulties in communicating in English since they do not pay much attention to English stress. This aims to raise the point that stress, while not very much significant in Korean, is an important factor in English causing considerable difference in meaning. Also, this discusses the importance of learning English stress.
This analyzed errors Koreans are prone to make by type through comparison of Korean stress and English stress. Through this analysis, this explores effective teaching method of English stress to Koreans and suggests ways to learn general rules and patterns of English stress easily.
