본고는 초등학교 저학년 '읽기' 교재의 어휘구성을 5차 교육과정과 6차 교육과정, 7차 교육과정의 변천에 따라 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다.
제2장에서는 교재의 어휘를 나누는 기준에 대해서 기술한다. 크게 합성어 처리, 접사처리, 의성어·의태어처리, 사전에 등재되지 않은 단어의 처리로 나누어 보았다. 2장은 '읽기' 교재의 띄어쓰기에 충실하여 단어를 분석하였으며, 어휘의 의미를 고려하여 기준을 정한다.
제3장은 각 교육과정의 단어빈도와 학년별 품사 어휘 빈도를 살핀다. 단어빈도에서는 5차 학년별 어휘종은 8,170개, 총 어휘수는 34,029개, 6차 학년별 어휘종은 10,223개, 총 어휘수는 40,144개, 7차 학년별 어휘종은 10,049개, 총 어휘수는 47,021개가 나타났다. 학년별 품사 어휘 빈도는 1학년과 2학년, 3학년으로 나누어 살펴보았으며, 체언 사용 빈도, 용언 사용 빈도, 수식언 사용 빈도, 감탄사, 준꼴, 무의미한 음절의 사용 빈도로 살펴보았다.
제4장의 어휘구성 변천에서는 학년별 신출어휘와 교육과정별 신출어휘로 나누었다. 학년별 신출어휘 비교는 각 교육과정의 각 학기별 비교를 통하여 신출어휘를 살펴보았다. 각 학년별 신출어휘는 일반명사, 동사, 부사, 형용사 순으로 높이 출현했다. 그 중의 현재 시행되고 있는 7차 교육과정을 중심으로 각 학년별로 신출어휘를 살펴보고, 그 어휘를 부록1에서 모두 제시한다. 7차 교육과정에서는 5차와 6차의 교육과정에 비해, 1학년 1학기부터 많은 어휘량이 학생들에게 학습된다. 교육과정별 신출어휘 비교에서는 5차와 7차 교육과정의 신출어휘 비교와 6차와 7차 신출어휘 비교를 통하여 어휘 변천을 살펴본다. 5차와 7차 교육과정의 신출어휘 비교 목록은 부록2에서 6차와 7차 교육과정의 신출어휘 비교 목록은 부록3에서 각 학기별로 전부 제시한다.
마지막으로 제5장에서는 본문에서 논의된 내용을 간단히 요약한다.

In chapter 2, it describes the basis of classifying vocabulary in textbook. It devided mainly by handling a compound, an affix, an onomatopoeia, an imitative word, and the words which are not recorded in the dictionary. In chapter 2, it analyzes the words by word spacing in textbook, and set a standard for vocabulary concerning its meanings.
In chapter 3, it looks at curriculum's frequency of words, and frequency of vocabulary's part of speech by grades. In frequency of words, it appears to be, 5th variety of vocabulary by grade is 8,170, total amount of vocabulary is 34,029, 6th amount of variety of vocabulary by grade is 10,223, total amount of vocabulary is 40,144, 7th amount of variety of vocabulary by grade is 10,049, total amount of vocabulary is 47,021. It devided first, second and third grade to look at frequency of vocabulary's part of speech by grades, and it also looks at frequency of use of substantive, a word with declined, modifiers, an exclamation, and use of meaningless syllables.
In chapter 4, it devided change of vocabulary structure, by new vocabulary in curriculum and by grades. For comparing new vocabulary by grades, it looks at through comparison by each grades of each curriculum. Each grade's new vocabulary comparison shows in order of a gneral term, a verb, an adverb, and an adjective. It looks at new vocabulary by grades based on the 7th curiculum, which is now carrying out, and those vocabularies are all presented in a first appendix. In the 7th curiculum, students study more vocabularies from first grade's first term, compared with the 5th and 6th curriculum. In comparing new vocabulary by curriculums, it shows change of vocabularies through comparing the 5th and 7th curriculum's new vocabulary and the 6th and 7th. The 5th and 7th curriculum's new vocabulary comparison list is all presented in the second appendix, and the 6th and 7th curriculum's new vocabulary in the third appendix by each terms.
