This study is focused on how the Korean learner changes the communication strategies that depended on other speaker's language type. That means the inadequacy of Korean language of learners is caused some troubles while communicating in Korean. To solve this problem we need to make analyze in the communication strategies and its changes that depends on other side's language type. The result of the study will help the Korean learner what strategies is effectively influence on communication strategies that depended on language type and prepare the primary teaching utilities used to teach Korean. There are two problems will be solve in the research. 1. What strategies usually used when Korean learners encounter language difficulties while communicating in Korean? 2. How the communication strategies of Korean learner changes that depends on what language the other side speaks? This research consists of 5 chapters. Chapter 1 includes the research purpose and consideration, and previous research works that related to Korean learners's communication strategies usage. This shows that number of research works that related to change of Korean learner's communication strategies that depends on other communicator's language type is few and most of the works is investigated the communication strategies in the Negotiation of meaning side, but not in the whole Interactional perspective field. And some of the studies are usually focused on the communication between native Korean speaker and Korean learner. Chapter 2 includes the main theory that communication strategies definitions and its classifies. First, two main definitions about communication strategies: Interactional perspective and Psycholinguistics perspective, and main definitions that describe the communication strategies. And, the researchers as Tarone(1980), Fearch & Kasper(1983b), Bialystok(1983), Poulisse and Schils (1989), Dörnyei & Scott(1997) who are studied communication strategies and their definitions and classifications of communication strategies of Korean learners. Chapter 3 includes the research methods. This study used the 10 episodes of cognitive serial program "Abnormal Summit" that produced by JTBC television. Research object is based on the 784 minutes dialogue between 11 other language speakers and 18 Korean learners and Deppermann(1998)'s translation methods that converts verbals into literacy. Also, based on previous works and theories that studied communication strategies usage, built a Dörnyei & Scott(1997) established classification model that classifies the communication strategies. Chapter 4 includes the classification that established on previous chapter's classification model. The communication strategies of Korean learner divided into non-interactive strategies and interactive strategies. These are also classified into speaker's own strategies that used solving problems alone and strategies that used solving problems with other communicator , and the strategies when used if the communication time is not enough. Analyze and conclusions are made with the strategies usage and its change that depends on other's language type. Chapter 5 includes the result of the study. First, I examined the Korean learners encounters the language difficult during communicating in Korean and which communication strategies usually used to overcome this communication problem. The analyze result showed Korean learners usually use non-interactive strategies (601 times), more often than interactive strategies (249 times). This means communication problem occurs while communicating non-interactive more often than interactive communication. Because, Korean learner have to speak in Korean when he is non-interactive communication. I also investigated the Korean learner's communication strategies changes that depend on other side's language type and following results are occurred. Korean learners usually use the interactive strategies (152 times) while they communicating with native Korean speaker and they use non-interactive strategies (408times) more than interactive strategies (25 times) while communicating with native Korean speakers and Korean learners. The study investigated the communication strategies between Korean learner and native Korean speaker by using TV program ‘Abnormal Summit’ and the disadvantage of the study may be what is based on limited materials. The communication problems are can be different whether what language speaker is communicating with Korean learner and the communication strategies derives from this. Further, I hope many researchers will investigate about communication problems that occurs when communicating actually.
