Mimetic words play an active role in Korean language. But understanding the mimetic words is usually burdensome for Korean language learners. Especially it is more difficult for the Chinese who use ideography. In Chinese language, there is no specific word to identify the mimetic word, however it doesn't mean that such word does not exist in Chinese language. The mimetic words in Chinese referred in some previous research include verb, adjective, adverb, idiom and phrase. In this thesis, these were not considered as the mimetic words in Chinese but the vocabulary group corresponding to the mimetic words in Korean, because the true features and attributes of Chinese mimetic words cannot be expressed. The definition and the expression effect are used as the standard to examine and approve the Chinese mimetic word which is classified as the Descriptive adjective in this thesis.
This thesis is about the study on the comparison of mimetic words between Korean and Chinese in phonology, form and grammar to find out their similarities and differences.
Through comparison research work, it can not only help people to understand and use the mimetic words better, but also can help both Korean and Chinese to learn language.

본고는 한국어와 중국어의 의태어를 대조하여 공통점과 차이점을 귀납하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 한국어를 배운 중국인의 경우, 한국어에 대한 지식이 깊다 하더라도 한국어 의태어를 소화하는 것이 힘든 것 같다. 게다가 한․중 의태어의 뜻이 상이하기 때문에 배우기가 더더욱 어려울 것이다.
한국어의 의성어와 대응할 수 있는 중국어의 象聲詞는 있지만, 한국어의 의태어와 대응하는 중국어의 전문용어가 없다. 여러 선행 연구에는 중국어 의태어는 동사, 형용사, 부사, 사자성어까지 여러 품사에 걸쳐 선정하였다. 그러나 이렇게 설정하는 기준은 중국어 의태어의 특징에 따라 하는 것이 아니라 한국어 의태어와 대응할 수 있는 중국어 어휘들을 찾는 것 같다. 이런 방법으로는 중국어 의태어의 참된 모습을 파악하기 어렵다고 본다. 중국어에는 한국어와 같이 의태어라는 용어는 없지만, 의태어 기능을 수행하는 어휘가 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 중국어 의태어를 상태형용사로 선정하는데, 그 이유는 한국어 의태어의 개념과 그 표현효과가 중국어의 상태형용사와 대응하기 때문이다.
본고의 목적을 달성하기 위해 한․중 의태어의 음운적, 형태적, 통사적 특징을 대조․분석하고 그 공통점과 차이점을 기술하게 될 것이다.
이 연구를 통해 한․중 의태어의 서로 다른 양상과 동일한 양상을 보여주므로 한국어와 중국어를 공부하는 사람들에게 도움을 줄 수 있길 기대한다.
