베트남 결혼이주여성이 성공적인 한국생활을 이룰 수 있는 전략을 도출하기 위하여 아시아 문화권에서 베트남 문화의 특성을 문헌고찰로 알아보고, 베트남 결혼이주여성의 결혼동기, 과정, 그리고 결혼비용 등에 관하여 사례를 바탕으로 검토하였다.
익산 지역에 거주하는 베트남 결혼이주여성 25명을 대상으로 2009년 9월부터 2010년 4월까지 개별 면접을 이용하여 자료를 수집하였다.
베트남의 사회. 환경적 특성은 공동체와 폐쇄성 때문에 자기네들끼리 대단한 결속력을 가진다. 일상생활에서 토지를 중요하게 여기며, 상부상조, 손님접대를 중요하게 여기고 남보다 앞서기를 좋아하며, 대인관계 평등성을 갖는다. 베트남은 아직도 의·식·주 문화 속에서 전통적인 가치를 보존하고 있고 강한 공동체성을 가지고 있으며 생산 공동체와도 교류를 해야 하므로 베트남 여성은 사회적으로 남성들과 평등한 위치에서 생활한다.
베트남 여성이 한국남성과 결혼하게 된 배경에는 어려운 가정형편을 돕기 위한 경제적인 문제가 가장 큰 이유였다.
초기 한국생활에서의 갈등은 한국생활에 적응하기도 전에 임신하여 입덧이 심한 경우가 있고, 경제적으로 어려워 일하다 보면 한국어공부 할 기회가 없으며, 무능한 남편과 남편의 외도, 고부 갈등 및 문화적인 갈등과 외로움, 지역사회의 냉대, 차별대우 등이었다. 결혼이주여성들이 한국생활에 적응해가면서 심각하게 고민하고 있는 것은 자녀양육과 교육에 대한 정신적, 경제적 문제이다.
한국생활을 성공적으로 이끌기 위해서 이들이 말하는 베트남 결혼이주여성의 전략은 다음과 같다.
가) 결혼이주여성 본인의 의지와 노력이 필요하다. 특히 이주 첫 1년 정도는 한국어를 배우려고 노력해야 한다.
나) 결혼이주여성 본인을 비롯하여 남편과 시어머니가 모두 다문화가족지원센터에서 시행하는 프로그램에 적극 참여함으로서 결혼이주여성에 대한 남편과 시어머니의 태도를 변화시킨다.
다) 친척이나 친구, 이웃들로부터 정보를 얻기 위해 베트남 결혼이주여성의 자조집단에 적극 참여한다.
라) 지역사회에서 도와주는 취업프로그램에 참여하여 자신에게 맞는 직업을 얻는다.
마) 한국 남성들이 베트남 여성과의 결혼을 위한 준비교육이나 가정생활에 대한 양성간의 평등교육을 습득하도록 한다.

The present study was aimed to obtain the strategy to adapt to Korean life from struggling of the early migration period by the Vietnamese wives in Korea. Characters of Vietnamese culture in Asian territory were studied through reference search and socioeconomic situations of Vietnamese marriage immigrants including the motivation, process, and expenses were studied by interview in 25 Vietnamese marriage immigrants of Iksan area from September 2009 to April 2010. The results were as follows.
Vietnamese are very closely united themselves because their socio-environmental characters are so closed community. In their daily life, they worship their land, helping each other, and serving guests. Also they would like to be a leading people and equality of personal relationship in both sexes. Vietnamese are still conserving traditional values in clothing-food-shelter culture, having strengthen the community, and exchanging with productive community. However, Vietnamese wives are having troubles with prohibiting their going out and social activities due to restricted and closed atmosphere of the multi-cultural family in Korea. The most important background in their international marriage was economic problems of poor Vietnamese families.
In early Korean life, they had too many complications before adapting Korean life. Severe morning sickness resulting from pregnancy caused physical and mental problems. Poor economic condition in Korean life made them working so hard that they had no chance to learn Korean. Also, they were having troubles with many kinds of things, such as incompetent husband, an affair of husband, trouble with mother in law, cultural problem, loneliness, inhospitality of local community and discrimination.
The most serious worry of Vietnamese marriage immigrants during adaptation to Korean life is mental and economic problems due to breeding and education of their children.
The strategies to adapt to Korean life of Vietnamese marriage immigrants based on these research findings are as follows.
1. International marriage migrant women need their own effort and their own will to adapt to Korean life. Especially, they should have to try to learn Korean at the first year of Korean life.
2. Taking in active part in the programs supported by the multi-cultural family supporting center, which make them not only adapt to Korean culture easily but also change the mind of uncooperative husband and mother in law.
3. Taking in active part in self-community of Vietnamese marriage immigrants to get informations from relatives, friends and neighbors.
4. Participate in job-finding programs provided by the local community, and having a training program for their job.
5. Korean husbands are needed to be educated for international wedding and gender role-equality.
