이 연구는 외국어로서의 한국어 교육을 목적을 제작된 TV 프로그램을 한국어 교실 수업에서 초급학습자를 위한 교수·학습을 활동의 매체로 활용할 수 있는 방안 모색에 관한 것이다. 이는 교실 수업에 활용 가능한 교육매체를 다양화함으로써 학습자의 흥미와 학습동기를 유발하여 교실 매 상호작용을 활성화시키기 위한이다. 또한 상이한 매체를 통한 교수 내용의 보충과 심화로 한국어 교육의 효과를 극대화하기 위함이기도 하다.
정보통신 기술의 발달로 교육 매체 선ㅌ책의 폭이 넓어졌음에도 불구하고 한국어 집합교육 현장에서는 주로 인쇄 매체에 의존하여 교수·학습 활동이 이루어지고 있다. 교실 내 상호작용 활성화 수단으로 접근성, 실용성, 유용성을 고려하여 교육 현장에서 현실적으로 이용 가능한 교육 매체 발굴의 시도로 한국어 교육용 TV 프로그램의 활용 가능성에 주목하게 되었다.
그 과정으로 먼저 한국어 교육용 TV 프로그램의 현황을 살펴보았고 그 중 하나인 EBS의 <외국인을 위한 실용 한국어 초급>을 선택하여 방송적, 언어·비언어적, 문화적 측면에서 프로그램을 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같은 시사점을 주었다. 프로그램의 동영상, 애니메이션 등의 멀티미디어적인 요소는 여러 학습자를 동시네 집중시키고 학습자의 흥미를 유발하는데 용이할 것이다. 또한 학습자는 언어적 표현뿐만 아니라 인물의 움직임을 통한 비언어적 표현에도 노출된다. 그리고 교육적인 내용으로 이미 정선된 자료를 교사의 의도에 따라 선택, 활용할 수 있어 교육과정의 심화와 보충이 가능할 것이다. 매체 활용을 위한 물리적 환경은 인터넷에 연결된 컴퓨터나 VCR과 학습용 모니터 정도로 컴퓨터 시설을 기반으로 하는 다른 매체보다 경제적이라고 할 수 있다.
프로그램의 구체적인 활용 방법은 목적이 다른 두 교육과정의 수업 지도안을 통해 제시하였다. 수업지도안을 실제 수업에 적용하여 학습자와 교사의 반응을 살펴 교육 자료로서의 효용성을 객관화할 수 없었음이 연구의 한계이지만 현재 이용 가능하면서도 주목받지 못한 교육 매체의 발굴과 그 활용 가능성을 모색한 점에 본 연구의 의의가 있다.

The purpose of the present study was to explore the advantages of the utilization of Korean language educational TV programs for learners at the beginning level.
To implement the purpose, 13 Korean language educational programs aired on EBS and Arirang TV were reviewed first and some suggestion were made on how the programs could fot in a regular class based on their reatures. Among the 13 shows, one program for beginners was selected for an in-depth analysis in order to display more specific examples of utilization. The analysis criteria included nonverbal language through gestures in to the aspects of verbal language culturem and production of the program.
The result of the analysis implies that the visual cues such as pictures, photos and graphic images in addition to the video clips, role-play and animations can offer learners rich multimedia experience, which catches and maintains learners' attention. They also can display nonverbal language through gestures and anchor the meaning of verbal language as well. The video clips introducing Korean culture in learners' first language can bring the sense of reality into the classroom and decrease learners' anxiety about foreign language learning. Most of the topics the program covered were common and shared with th syllabi of the other curricula, which means that the program can be used for supplementary resources or enrichment in line with a regular curriculum. The downloadable scripts and free of charge VOD services make the program affordable and accessible teaching aids. Considering the advantages of Korean language educational TV programs and the fact that most Korean classes are dominated by -bassed media, it seems reasonable to conclude that the programs can be a userful instructional medium enhancing levels of classroom interactivity and enriching the curriculum.
Two different teaching plans for beginners with different learning goals were presented to provide more concrete and elaborate example of utilization of the program. The plans should have been performed in a classroom and evaluated by learners and teachers, which is the limitation of the study and remains for further research. It should yet be pointed out that the study was the first attempt to examine the educational TV programs for Korean language learners to a large extent and suggested the concrete examples of utilization in a classroom setting.
