This study aims for proposing an efficient plan of dialect education for immigrated married women in cross-cultural families who study Korean residing in a dialect area.
Recently, statistics showed that one of three newly married couples in Korean agricultural districts have a foreign wife. This is because of the marriage problem of unmarried rural men started to become serious as social and economical structures were undergoing sudden change, since Korean society has advanced to an industrial society rapidly. They are mostly women in there twenties and thirties and in 10 years they will be crucial farming successors in the Korean agricultural district. They will also grow as leading parts of the local community. However, in reality, there are a lot of difficulties for them to live in Korea such as issues concerning food, language, finance, health, and culture. All factors weigh in on causing difficulties with family members and so on but among them, the language problem is the most urgent situation. Therefore, the government and each organization are providing Korean education for them.
Immigrated married women are residing in city areas and farming/fishing villages. They mostly reside in farming and fishing villages. However, since Korean education is focused on the standard language, currently for the immigrated married women in cross-cultural families residing in farming and fishing village's Korean education may differ. There must be differences in Korean education with city areas compared to fishing/farming villages since there are a lot of areas using dialect rather than standard Korean in farming and fishing villages.
Therefore, this thesis suggests performing Korean dialect education for immigrated married women in cross-cultural families residing in farming and fishing villages with those issues. The education plan focused on vocabulary in dialect would be proposed. Since they are having standard Korean education, when studying dialect grammar, they will undergo confusion with standard Korean grammar. Accordingly, in this study, only the education of dialect vocabularies will be discussed. Also, among the dialect areas, Kyungsangbuk-do district is the subject of the study and through requested inquiries, the education plan based on the opinions of students, students' family and teachers will be proposed.
In chapter one, the necessity and the goal to suggest dialect vocabularies education for immigrated married women in cross-cultural families will be claimed and preceded in studies in Korea about immigrated married women, which are reviewed.
In chapter two, the reality of Korean dialect education which is the theoretical background of Korean education of immigrated married women in cross-cultural families and requested inquiries about dialect education aimed at students, students' families and teachers which can be the data are performed and analyzed.
In chapter three, the vocabulary lists in Korean text books for immigrated married women to select dialect vocabularies for the education are abstracted, and according to dialect dictionary, the dialect vocabularies are adapted to the vocabularies in the texts. Also, for the dialect vocabularies that are not listed in the dictionary, the vocabularies that Kyungsangbuk-do residents are using were investigated, and overall dialect list was presented.
In chapter four, based on the result of the investigation in chapter two and dialect vocabulary list in chapter three, the dialect vocabulary education plan for immigrated married women in cross-cultural families is presented.
In chapter five, integrating and summarizing the discussion for advanced dialect vocabulary education for immigrated married women, the limitation and the direction of this study were mentioned and conclusion is presented.
This study shows importance in that it emphasized the necessity of studying dialect vocabularies to immigrated married women in cross-cultural families and presented efficient education plans. The characteristic of this study is that it investigated the studying method and preferences in classified sections of study and reflected the requests performing the requested inquiries aimed at students, students' families and teachers. The following study must be for the development of the dialect education plan for immigrated married women in cross-cultural families not only in Kyungsangbuk-do area but also in other dialect areas, and systematical dialect teacher-study methods are expected.
