The purpose of this study is to clarify the proverbs as important educational method material for the Korean Language education as a foreign Language.
Although it is true that the awareness about the necessity of proverbs education has been far growing in the former Korean Language education studies, few studies were conducted to systemize the objectives of proverbs education and to suggest appropriate teaching and leaning methods by finding right contents for the education.
Generally korean proverb can be use a kind of a culture method in korean education, But it's very difficult to understand without explain the behind story.
Then korean proverbs were selected to serve for prove of the content.
Here we can use the 'background' meaning the basic or behind story of social, cultural phenomenon.
The primary objective of foreign language education has been thought to improve communicative competence on the basis of language skills, that is why we can say that culture education is the main factor of making communicative competence higher.
Language reflects people's way of thinking , life values and characteristics of peoples.
In the Korean Language education , the Korean culture should not be regarded as a cultural background.
The cultural competence hypothesized to be improved only when one learns culture, and then they can understand, evaluate and integrates cultures expressed in the Language.

본고는 속담을 활용한 한국어교육 방안 연구이다. 최근 한국어교육에서 교육 자료로서 속담 교육의 필요성과 중요성은 날로 커지고 있지만 속담 교육의 목표를 체계적으로 설정하고 그에 걸맞는 내용과 적절한 교수-학습 방법을 제시하는 연구는 아직 미흡하다 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 한국어 교육에서 속담의 문화적 배경을 활용한 교육 방안을 제시하고자 한다.
속담 교육은 문화 교육의 하위 항목으로 제시되어 주로 속담을 소개하는 형식으로 교육을 하고 있다. 그러나 속담은 그 안에 내재된 문화적 배경에 대한 이해 없이는 이해하기가 힘들다. 이에 본고에서는 속담을 효과적으로 학습하기 위한 방안으로 속담의 배경 지식을 활용하여 교육을 할 것을 제안한다.
외국어 학습의 궁극적인 목적은 원활한 의사소통에 있으며 이를 위해서는 목표 학습 언어의 문화에 대한 이해가 반드시 필요하다. 특히 언어에는 그것을 수행하는 그 사회 구성원들의 언어관과 언어 활동에 대한 가치와 태도가 반영되어 있어 외국어 교육에서 중요한 요소이다.
한국어 교육에서 문화적 이해 능력이 한국 문화를 배경적 지식으로 활용되었을 때만 향상되는 것은 아니다. 언어 학습을 통한 문화 이해 능력은 목표 언어의 문화를 수용하고 이해, 해석하는 과정을 거쳐 객관적 시각으로 바라보고 평가하며 학습 목표 문화에 공감할 수 있을 때 언어를 통한 문화 이해 능력이 향상된다고 할 수 있다.
이에 본고는 한국어 학습 능력 향상을 위한 방안으로 속담의 문화적 배경을 활용하는 방안을 제시하는 바이다. 한국 속담은 한국인들의 가치와 사고, 생활 방식 등 다양한 측면이 그대로 표현되어 한국인들의 고유한 특성이 고스란히 반영되어 있다는 사실에 기인한다. 속담의 이러한 특성은 한국어 교육에서 필요한 다양한 내용과 교수요목을 제공해 줄 수 있다. 속담의 문화적 배경 지식을 통하여 한국의 전통 사회에서 드러나는 문화적 내포성과 가치관을 살펴보아 한국을 이해하고 한국에 대한 이해 능력을 향상시키는 내용 체계를 구성한다. 또한 학습자가 이를 제대로 받아들이고 활용할 수 있는 활동을 제시한다.
본 연구는 외국어로서의 한국어교육에서 속담 교육의 의의를 확인하며, 이를 위한 한국어 교육 내용 항목을 마련하고자 한다.
