We get a broad picture of one's society, along with their lifestyles, by carefully examining one another's adage. Often times, the proverbs serve as guidance in our daily lives or just satirical remarks that describes how the world was at the time. Proverb also says a great deal of one another's perspective on lives; as to serve as a mirror image for one's culture. By comparing two specific ethnic groups, of their proverbs, we would be able to note the difference, as well as similarity, of one another's traditions. And this study mainly focuses on the proverbs based on the discrimination, between genders and ages at the time, and people's response with that respect, both in Korea and Japan.
In order to do a comparison, we chose『The proverbs of korea glossary』『The vulgar proverbs glossary』『The sexual proverbs of korea glossary』 as our reference, in regards to Korean culture and the proverbs based on the discrimination』「Discrimination analysis in the Japanese proverbs」「Inquiry sexism, both in Korean and Japanese」 for Japanese culture. Using the research data, we largely divided into three phases; implicit and explicit, characteristic, and relative aspects.
The implicit and explicit aspects are mainly composed of the sexual discriminations; with regards to intelligence, appearance, sex sells, and being preserving from other people. The proverbs indicate that women weren't considered as wise as men, at the time, thus educating women were considered rather a waste. As for appearance and sex sells, it indicates that women needed to be attractive for men, to serve men. Femininity prospective emphasizes that women should always be preserving themselves.
The proverbs based on women's characteristics contain lust, gossip, fickleness, and ill-minded. And these implications only portrayed women's characteristic rather undesirable.
Relations between people, groups, or countries are contacts between them and the way in which they behave towards each other. In relational side, and we consider how to reflect on the proverbs based on the discrimination. we divided into four position ; daughter, wife, daughter-in-law, concubine.
We examined how discriminate between a daughter and a son, how recognize a women as one's daughter or wife, and how did relationship between a woman's mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law. Finally, in men position, what someone keep a mistress was no wonder on the proverbs.

속담을 보면 당시 사회를 살아가던 인간들의 모습과 그들의 내면에 담겨있는 생각을 알 수 있다. 속담은 때로는 덕담이 되어 사회 구성원들에게 교훈적인 기능을 하기도 하고, 또는 사회를 풍자하는 해학으로 표현되기도 한다. 속담은 사회상 그 언어집단의 인생관이나 세계관을 반영한 거울과 같은 것으로 특정대상에 대한 한·일 양국 언어의 의식의 차이도 양국어의 속담 비교 대조에 의해 보여 지는 것이다.
본 연구는 한국과 일본에서 여성과 관련된 속담 중 여성차별 표현을 중심으로 그 속담에 나타난 의미 분석을 통하여 여성에 대한 그 당시 사회의 편향된 사회의식과 차별적 성향을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 한·일 양국의 여성차별 표현의 선별을 위해 먼저 한국어 속담에 관해서는『한국의 속담 대사전』『상말 속담 사전』『한국의 성 속담사전』을 데이터로 하였고, 일본어 속담에 관해서는『ことわざに表れた性差別』「일본속담에 나타난 여성 차별표현의 분석」「韓日 兩國의 俗談에 나타난 女性에 대한 性差別 意識 考察」을 데이터로 하여 여성차별에 관련된 표현을 참고로 하였다. 그 데이터를 이용하여 여성 차별에 관련된 한·일 속담 표현을 내·외면적인 측면, 성격적인 측면, 관계적인 측면으로 나누어 비교 대조 하였다.
우선 내·외면적인 측면에서는 지적인 측면, 외모적 측면, 성의 상품화, 정숙·정절에 관한 여성 차별 표현 속담이 포함되어 있으며, 지적인 측면에서는 여자의 생각과 지혜는 얕고 단순해서 깊은 사고를 할 수 없으므로 여자는 배움의 필요성이 없다는 표현을 하고 있고, 외모와 성의 상품화적 측면에서는 여성의 아름다운 외모는 남성을 위한 것이고, 여성은 성적매력을 지녀야 마땅함을 나타내는 속담들이다.
정숙·정적의 측면에서는 여성은 항상 자기 자신의 몸가짐을 단정히 해야 했음을 강조하고 있다. 성격적인 측면은 질투, 수다, 변덕, 근성을 포함하고 있으며, 이 성격적인 측면에 포함되어 있는 속담들은 여성이라면 모두 가지고 있는 좋지 못한 성격이라고 보고 이를 비하시켜 표현하고 있다.
관계적인 측면에서는 사람과 사람사이의 관계를 나타내고 있는데 그 중 딸, 아내, 고부, 첩으로 나누어 그들 관계에 있어서 여성차별 표현이 어떻게 나타는지 살펴보았다. 딸과 아들을 어떻게 차별하고 있는지, 아내를 집안에서 어떤 존재로 바라보고 있는지를 딸과 아내와 관련된 측면에서 살펴보았고, 시어머니와 며느리의 관계는 어떠했는지도 고부관계에서 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 첩과 관련된 여성 차별 표현 속담에서는 첩을 두는 것을 당연시 여기는 남성들의 생각을 표현하였다.
