빠르게 변화하는 현대 사회 속에서 청소년들은 컴퓨터, TV, 스마트폰 등 다양한 매체를 통해 시각적 이미지에 노출되어 있다. 시각 이미지 속의 정보를 이해하지 못한 상태에서 비판 없이 수... 빠르게 변화하는 현대 사회 속에서 청소년들은 컴퓨터, TV, 스마트폰 등 다양한 매체를 통해 시각적 이미지에 노출되어 있다. 시각 이미지 속의 정보를 이해하지 못한 상태에서 비판 없이 수용하는 자세를 취한다면 일상생활 속에서 수많은 문제점이 발생하며 시각적 의사소통의 어려움을 겪게 된다. 그러므로 시각 이미지를 통해 정보를 읽고 해석하고 사용하며 나아가 시각적 의사소통을 할 수 있는 능력이 강조되고 있다. 이러한 사회·문화적 흐름에 따라 등장한 것이 비주얼 리터러시(Visual Literacy) 교육이다. 비주얼 리터러시란 수용자 스스로가 이미지를 분석하여 비평적으로 받아들일 수 있는 태도 및 능력을 뜻한다. 비주얼 리터러시 향상을 위하여 본 연구에서는 빠르고 정확한 시각적 의사소통 체계로서의 픽토그램의 중요성에 착안하였다. 나아가 정보전달의 기능과 더불어 자기 생각과 감성을 전달할 수 있는 확장된 범위로서의 픽토그램을 제안한다. 학습자는 자신을 소개하는 픽토그램을 제작 및 발표하는 활동을 통하여 문화를 이해하고 시각적 의사소통 능력을 기르는 동시에 창의적 인간상으로 성장할 수 있다. 본 연구는 고등학교에서 적용할 수 있는 픽토그램 제작활동 계획안을 활용하여 비주얼 리터러시를 향상할 지도방안을 모색하였다. 먼저 교육과정 속의 시각문화미술의 방향성을 이해하고 그 속에서 픽토그램의 기능을 이해한다. 나아가 기존 픽토그램과 현대 픽토그램의 발전과정을 살펴봄으로써 확장된 시각문화 경향을 파악한다. 그 후 직접 픽토그램을 제작하는 활동을 통하여 타인과 시각적 의사소통을 할 기회를 모색하고자 하였다. 수업지도 방안으로는 픽토그램의 이해, 자신을 표현하는 픽토그램 제작, 작품발표 및 감상을 연계하여 총 4차 시 수업지도안을 제안하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 자기소개 픽토그램 제작활동을 통하여 학습자가 비주얼 리터러시를 향상하며 문화를 이해하고 창의적인 사고를 확장하며 타인과의 시각적 의사소통을 끌어내는 것이다. 또한, 학습자의 삶과 함께하는 미술을 이해하고 활용할 수 있는지도 방안을 마련하는 데 의의가 있다.

Problems occur in daily life as well as visual communicational difficulties unveil when subliminal information of visual images is overlooked by taking a stance of uncritical acceptance. Therefore, there is further emphasis on the ability to read and interpret and utilize information via visual images. Visual Literacy education came above the surface in the stream of social and cultural development. Visual Literacy means to have an ability and attitude to critically analyze an image to accept its underlying meanings. This research will focus on the importance of fast and accurate pictograms of visual communication system for visual literacy enhancement. As well as this research proposes the expanded scope of pictograms to deliver one's ideas and emotions along with the function of information conveyance. Learners will be creating and presenting pictograms by introducing themselves and via these activities, they will be able to understand the culture and learn visual communication abilities on top of growing up to be creative human character. This research will be using a pictogram, which could be applied in High School activities as a blueprint, in order to seek teaching method to enhance visual literacy. Firstly, understanding the direction of visual culture art education in the process of education and apprehend the function of pictogram inside the education system. Also, by looking at the developing progress of existing pictograms and modern pictograms, figuring out the visual culture tendency. The goal of this research is to acquaint the learner with expanded creative thinking and comprehend the culture in the context of Visual Literacy via self-introducing pictogram activities.
