본 연구는 여성 한 부모 가정 남학생 자녀가 성역할에 대해서 어떠한 생각과 문제점을 갖고 있는지를 이해하고, 그들이 남성 체육교사의 체육활동 지도를 통해 성역할 정체감이 어떻게 변화... 본 연구는 여성 한 부모 가정 남학생 자녀가 성역할에 대해서 어떠한 생각과 문제점을 갖고 있는지를 이해하고, 그들이 남성 체육교사의 체육활동 지도를 통해 성역할 정체감이 어떻게 변화해 가는지에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다. 첫째, 여성 한 부모 가정의 남학생은 어떠한 특징이 있는가?, 둘째, 남성체육교사와의 상호작용을 통해 여성 한 부모 가정 자녀의 성역할 정체감과 행동은 어떻게 변화해 가는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 대상은 경상남도 소재의 U중학교 2학년 재학생들이며 연구의 진실성과 심층적이고 긴밀한 연구를 위하여 연구자가 체육교사로 재직하고 있는 학교의 남학생들로 대상을 한정하였다. 본 연구자가 직접 체육활동을 지도하고 있는 학생들 중 여성 한 부모 가정의 남학생은 13명이며 이들 중 연구에 참여하겠다는 의사를 밝힌 3명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 본 연구는 문화 기술적 사례 연구로써 연구목적에 부합하는 결과를 도출하기 위해서 심층면담, 참여관찰, 연구일지 작성 등의 연구도구를 통해 연구를 진행하였으며, 얻어진 자료들을 귀납적 범주분석으로 분석하였다. 매주 3회씩 진행되는 체육수업과 방과 후 체육활동, 학교스포츠클럽 대회 참가를 통해서 연구 참여자들을 지도하고 교감하였다. 본 연구의 연구 결과를 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여성 한 부모 가정의 남학생들의 특징은 주로 내성적이고 소극적이며 다른 또래 친구들과 달리 체육활동에 적극적으로 참여하지 않는 다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 하지만 연구를 통해 남성성이 증가한 여성 한 부모 가정 남학생들이 아버지의 부재로 인하여 갖게 된 부정적인 성격과 태도를 긍정적이고 명랑하며 체육활동에도 적극적으로 참여하는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 둘째, 여성 한 부모 가정의 남학생들의 성역할 정체감은 주로 여성성이 강하고 남성성이 약하게 나타났다. 이들은 미적 감각이 높고 순응적이고 예민한 여성적 성향을 강하게 보였으며, 활동적이고 독립적이며 야망적인 남성적 성향은 약하게 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었다. 하지만 본 연구자와의 상호작용과 지속적인 체육활동 참가를 통해서 강했던 여성성이 약해지고 약했던 남성성이 강해지는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 통해 남성 체육교사의 체육활동 지도가 여성 한 부모 가정의 남학생들에게 올바른 성역할 정체감을 인식시키고 그들의 사고와 행동 또한 긍정적이고 명랑하게 변화하게 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구가 앞으로 이루어질 연구에 참고자료가 되길 바라며, 궁극적으로 한 부모 가정의 자녀들이 올바른 성역할 정체감 확립에 도움이 되길 기대해 본다.

The purpose of this study is to understand the conception and problems that male students from single-parents families have about their gender role, and to examine how they change through physical education taught by male PE teachers. To fulfill the purpose, the following research questions were asked. First, what characteristics male students from single-mother families have? Second, how they change through interaction with male PE teachers. The subjects of this research were second-graders from U middle school located in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. For deep and close examination, the subjects were limited to the male students of the school where the researcher works as a PE teacher. Among the students the researcher teaches, 13 were male students living with a single mother. Three of them wanted to participate and were selected as the subjects. This research, as a cultural technology case study, carried out in-depth interviews, participant observation and kept a research journal to produce results meeting the study purpose. Collected data were analyzed by Inductive category analysis. The researcher taught and interacted with the participants through PE classes which happened three times a week and the school sports-club competition. The findings were as follows. First, the characteristics of the male students from single-mother families included being introspective and passive in PE activities unlike their peers. In the course of the research, however, their masculinity grew and became more cheerful and active in PE activities. Second, in terms of gender role, the male students from single-mother families were found to showed strong femininity but weak masculinity: They had feminine inclination such as a good sense of beauty, adaptability and sensibility while having less of masculine propensity including being active and independent. However, their femininity weakened and masculinity grew bigger through constant PE activities and interaction with their male teacher. The research results indicated that PE activities with the male teacher helped the male students from single-mother families to build the proper gender role identity so that their thoughts and behavior became more positive and cheerful.
