현재 댄스음악은 한국 대중음악계 뿐만 아니라 전 세계적으로 상당한 인기를 얻고 있으며 한국을 대표함과 동시에 가장 비중 있는 위치에 올라와 있는 것이 현실이다. 미디어와 디지털 기술의 발달로 대중들이 보다 쉽고 간편하게 음악에 접근하게 되면서 대중음악은 더욱 발전했고, 그 중 시각적인 요소가 돋보이는 댄스음악이 부상하게 되었다. 무엇보다 1990년대 등장한 `서태지와 아이들'로 인해 한국 대중음악 시장은 성인 가요와 발라드 위주에서 10~20대 취향의 댄스음악 위주로 흐름이 바뀌었으며 댄스음악 열풍이 일어나기 시작했다. 이후 대형 기획사 주도 아래 수많은 아이돌 댄스 그룹이 만들어졌고, 이들은 뛰어난 외모와 춤 실력으로 현재까지 대중음악에 큰 영향을 끼치고 있다. 앞서 말한 이유로 댄스음악의 많은 비중을 차지하고 있는 아이돌 그룹을 파악해 연구하고자 하였다.
본 연구의 목적은 지금의 아이돌 그룹을 있게 한 1세대 아이돌 그룹과 2세대 아이돌 그룹의 댄스음악 스타일을 비교ㆍ분석해 댄스음악 스타일 변화에 대해 연구하고 댄스음악의 전망을 가늠하는 것이다. 연구를 위해 문헌 연구와 콘텐츠 연구를 수행하였으며 스타일의 범위를 춤, 가사, 패션, 음악으로 정해 살펴보았다.
또한 댄스음악의 기원과 특징, 아이돌 그룹의 발생 배경에 대해서도 살펴봤으며 1990년대 후반 대형 기획사 주도 아래에 등장한 아이돌 스타 시스템 구조의 관해서도 분석하였다. 더불어 해외 스타시스템 사례와 한국 스타시스템의 문제에 대해서도 언급해주었다. 이러한 분석 결과 댄스음악 스타일과 기획사의 상호 관련성을 파악할 수 있었고 시대 변화의 흐름도 알 수 있었다.
연구 대상은 1990년대 말 등장한 아이돌 스타시스템의 구조 아래 만들어진 아이돌 그룹 중 대표할 수 있는 그룹과 앨범 판매량, 팬덤의 수를 기준으로 1세대 아이돌 그룹은 H.O.T, 젝스 키스, SES, 핑클로 선정하였고, 2세대 아이돌 그룹은 동방신기, 빅뱅, 소녀시대, 원더걸스로 선정해 1세대 아이돌 그룹 안에서 정리된 댄스음악 스타일과 2세대 아이돌 그룹 안에서 나타난 댄스음악 스타일을 비교해 표로 정리하였다.
현재 한국 대중음악은 전 세계적으로 `K-Pop'이라 불리며 한국을 알리는 중요한 요소가 되었다. 그 안에서 상당한 비중을 차지하고 있는 아이돌 그룹 위주의 댄스음악은 오늘날 한국 대중음악계와 한류에 큰 영향을 끼치고 있는 반면, 적잖은 문제도 보이고 있다. 아이돌 그룹의 댄스음악은 대형 연예기획사의 체계적인 계획에 의해 기획되고 통제되며 단순히 음악이 아니라 산업이자 상품이 된 것이다.
따라서 본 논문은 현재 아이돌 그룹 위주의 댄스음악이 존재하기까지 한국 댄스음악이 어떠한 토대로 형성되어 발전되었는지를 고찰하고, 앞서 선정한 아이돌 그룹의 특징과 댄스음악 스타일에 대해 연구하며 기획사마다 추구하는 전략과 현 시대의 댄스음악 스타일의 방향을 알아볼 것이다.

Korean dance music has become a big hit in Korea pop music as well as taken over the world. It represents Korea and holds the most serious status actually. As people have a chance to access the music more easily and conveniently due to the growth of media and digital technology, popular music has developed and dance music that appeals to visual sense has emerged. Most importantly, 'Seo Tai-ji and Boys' in the 1990s changed the main stream of the Korean pop music industry from adult songs and ballads to dance music preferred by young people aged 10 to 20 years old and the dance music crazy began to rise. After that, a number of idol dance groups debuted under the plan of giant agencies and they have had a huge influence on Korean pop music, appealing their outstanding appearances and dance skills. As mentioned above, this study attempted to examine idol groups that hold a large part of dance music.
The purpose of this study is to explore the changes in the style of dance music and to predict the future of dance music by comparing and analyzing dance music styles between the 1st generation of idol groups and the 2nd generation of idol groups. For this study, literature and contents study were conducted and the ranges of styles were divided into dance, lyric, fashion and music and examined.
In addition, this study tried to examine the origin and characteristics of dance music and the background on the emerge of idol groups and analyze the system structure of idol stars appearing under the plan of giant agencies in the late 1990s.
In order to conduct this study, H.O.T., Sechs Kies, SES, and Fin.K.L were selected as the 1st generation of idol groups and Tong Vfang Xien Qi, Big Bang, Girls' Generation, and Wonder Girls as the 2nd generation of idol groups by setting a standard of the number of selling albums and fandom among idol groups that had debuted under the structure of the idol star system in the late 1990s. The differences of dance music styles were illustrated on a chart, comparing the dance music styles between the 1st generation of idol groups and the 2nd generation of idol groups.
Currently, Korean pop music is called as 'K-Pop' all over the world and becomes an important element to introduce Korea. The dance music focusing on idol groups that have a large portion in K-Pop has a hugh influence on Korean pop music and Korean Wave and, besides that, some issues should be considered. Dance music of idol groups is no more music but has become industry or products designed and controled by the systematic plan of giant entertainment agencies.
Therefore, this thesis attempted to explore the foundation and growth of Korean dance music until dance music centering on current idol groups emerged, research the characteristics of idol groups selected above and the styles of dance music, and study the strategies at which entertainment agencies aim and the directions of current dance music styles.
