본 연구는 외국인 여성과 한국인 남성으로 구성된 다문화가정을 대상으로 다문화가정 가족기능, 다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감, 다문화아동 언어발달 및 사회적 능력 간의 구조적 관계를 분석하기 위해 설계되었다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위한 연구문제는 첫째, 다문화가정의 가족기능은 다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감, 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달 및 사회적 능력에 직접적인 영향을 미치는가? 둘째, 다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감은 다문화아동의 언어발달과 사회적 능력에 직접적인 영향을 미치는가? 셋째, 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달은 다문화아동의 사회적 능력에 직접적인 영향을 미치는가? 넷째, 다문화가정의 가족기능은 다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감과 다문화아동의 언어발달을 매개하여 다문화아동의 사회적 능력에 영향을 미치는가? 로 제시하였다.
표집방법은 다문화지원센터 및 어린이집을 통해 외국인 여성과 한국인 남성이 결혼한 가정의 자녀 중 만3세~6세 아동을 유의표집하였다. 자료수집은 다문화가정의 아동을 현장에서 직접 돌보거나 서비스를 제공하고 있는 실무자와 해당 아동의 어머니를 대상으로 자기기입식 설문지를 통해 이루어졌다. 설문지는 다문화가정 어머니의 국적을 고려하여 베트남어, 영어, 중국어, 한국어로 제작하여 2015년 4월 한 달 동안 자료수집이 이루어졌다. 배포된 설문지 213부 중 응답이 불성실한 9개 설문지를 제외한 204개의 설문지가 최종분석에 활용되었다. 가설검증을 위해 연구모형과 경합모형에 의한 검증이 이루어졌다.
분석결과 완전매개모형으로 설정된 경합모형이 최종모형으로 선정되었으며, 경합모형에 의해 가설의 수용과 기각을 판단하였다. 주요 연구결과로는 첫째, 변수들 간 직접효과에서 다문화가정의 가족기능은 다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감과 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감은 다문화가정 아동의 언어 및 사회적 능력에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달은 사회적 능력을 예측하는 중요변수로 기능하였다. 둘째, 다문화가정의 가족기능은 다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감과 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달을 매개하여 다문화아동의 사회적 능력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 다문화가정의 가족기능이 다문화가정 아동의 사회적 능력에 직접적인 영향을 미치지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 사회복지적 제언이 이루어졌다.

This study aims to analyze the structural relations among factors of a multicultural family that consists of a Korean man and a foreign woman such as family functions and maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family, and verbal development and social ability of multicultural children. To this end, the following study issues have been established: First, would family functions of a multicultural family directly affect the maternal parenting efficacy of that multicultural family maternal parenting efficacy and the verbal development and social ability of multicultural children? Second, would maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family directly affect the verbal development and social ability of multicultural children? Third, would the verbal development of multicultural children directly affect the social ability of multicultural children? Fourth, would family functions of a multicultural family affect the social ability of multicultural children with the maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family and the verbal development of multicultural children as mediators?
As for the sampling method, children aged 3 to 6 were selected at multicultural family assistance centers by means of a purposeful sampling method among those in families of a foreign woman and a Korean man. For data collection, used was a self-administered questionnaire which was filled in by those taking care of or providing service for children in multicultural families or mothers of those children. The questionnaire was written in Vietnamese, English, Chinese, and Korean in consideration of the nationalities of the mothers in multicultural families, and completed sheets were collected for one month in April 2015. analyzed were 204 out of 213 questionnaires except 9 with incomplete answers. For hypothesis verification, the study model, contest model, and correction model were designed; and a structural equation was utilized for verification. Prior to the study model verification, the validity of the scale was verified through exploratory factor analysis. Whether the measurement variables explains potential variables correctly was examined through confirmatory factor analysis. As for the structural model estimation scheme, the maximum likelihood estimation method was adopted. As for model goodness-of-fit indexes, absolute (, RMSEA) and relative(NFI, TLI, CFI) were utilized.
As a result of the analysis, the contest model set to a perfect mediating model was selected as the final model, the hypothesis acceptance and rejection was determined by means of a contest model. The major findings are as follows:
First, with regard to direct effects among variables, it turned out that family functions of a multicultural family directly affect the maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family and the verbal development of multicultural children, and that the maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family directly affects the language and social ability of multicultural children. The verbal development of multicultural children functions a major variable based on which the social ability is predicted. Second, it turned out that family functions of a multicultural family affects the social ability of multicultural children as the maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family and the verbal development of multicultural children as mediators. Unlike the study hypothesis, however, it turned out that family functions of a multicultural family have no direct effect on the social ability of multicultural children.
The findings above indicate the importance of comprehensive support and mediation for a multicultural family, and specific ways of improving the maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family are suggested accordingly. Above all, the society needs to show keen interest in multicultural children, and various mediation and support strategies are required.
This study is significant in that it focuses on multicultural children on which there have been few researches and empirically verifies the structural relation among the language and social ability of children, family functions of a multicultural family, and the maternal parenting efficacy of a multicultural family. However, this study has limitations in that the study objects were limited to a certain city and that it does not include various family factors that may affect the language and social ability of multicultural children. Thus, the future study needs to examine various regions and variables thoroughly.
