The purpose of this study is to present how to develop a self-study Korean language teaching material correspondent with the characteristics and demands of marriage migrant women, based on the analysis of teaching material and the examination of learners’ demands. The Korean language teaching material to be developed in this study is the self-study teaching material in which the environmental factors and the special situations of the marriage migrant women are considered. The final purpose of this study is to develop the custom-made teaching material for the marriage migrant women who can not participate in Korean language group teachings because of various reasons, or who, though taking Korean language classes, want to supplement and deepen their Korean language learning while learning it by themselves at home. The points of this study are classified according to a table of contents as follows:
In the chapter Ⅰ the precedent studies on the Korean language instruction and the teaching material development for it and the development of the self-study Korean language teaching material are examined.
In the chapter Ⅱ it is asserted first of all that a marriage migrant woman is a learner who studies Korean language as a second language. And the learning characteristics of the marriage migrant women is deduced. And then the theoretical basis for developing the self-study Korean language teaching material is presented through examining the considering points in developing the self-study Korean language teaching material.
In the chapter Ⅲ the advanced Korean language teaching material for marriage migrant women is examined. The subject of teaching material analysis is ‘Korean language 5 for marriage migrant women’ and ‘Korean language 6 for marriage migrant women’. On the other hand a criteria for systematic teaching material analysis is needed to have meaningful teaching material analysis results which becomes a guide for teaching material development. In this study the teaching material analysis criteria is classified on the whole into the study contents and study activities of the teaching material, and the study contents is classified again into subject, situation, and function, and the study activities again into speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The teaching material analysis result is used as the material to determine the direction of teaching material development.
In the chapter Ⅳ the purpose of the survey carried on to understand the marriage migrant women’s demands for self-study Korean language teaching material is clarified and then the survey result is examined. The purpose of the survey is focused on the understanding of how the learners know the whole Korean language learning situation and how they understand the existing teaching material and what self-study Korean language teaching material they demand. On the foundation of the survey results the basis for the development of the self-study Korean language teaching material is secured and the details of the teaching material is designed.
In the chapter Ⅴ the principle for the teaching material development is described clearly and the principal teaching items designed on the basis of the teaching material examination results in the chapter Ⅲ and the learners’ demands examination results in the chapter Ⅳ are presented. And after the each compositional elements of the chapters are determined, it is described what roles the elements play and what organic relations they have in the chapters. And then the chapter composition of the advanced self-study Korean language teaching material for marriage migrant women which is developed on the basis of the precedent discussion is presented.
In the chapter Ⅵ the core contents of this study is described clearly and the importance and limitations of this study and what to be done afterward are expressed finally.

본 연구는 교재 분석과 학습자 요구 분석을 바탕으로, 여성결혼이민자의 특성과 요구에 부합하는 독학용 한국어 교재의 개발 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 출발하였다.
이러한 연구 목적에 맞추어 먼저 여성결혼이민자 대상의 한국어 교재 개발과 독학용 한국어 교재 개발에 대한 선행 연구를 검토하였다.
이어서 여성결혼이민자 대상 독학용 한국어 교재 개발을 위한 이론적 배경으로 여성결혼이민자가 제2언어로서의 한국어 학습자라는 점을 규정하고, 여성결혼이민자의 한국어 사용에 나타나는 특징을 통하여 여성결혼이민자의 학습자적 특성을 도출하였다. 그리고 한국어 교재의 개발 원리와 독학용 교재를 개발할 때 고려할 사항을 살펴봄으로써 교재 개발의 이론적 근거를 갖추었다.
이러한 이론적 근거를 바탕으로 하여 여성결혼이민자 대상 독학용 한국어 교재를 개발하기 위한 첫 번째 절차로, 여성결혼이민자 대상 고급 한국어 교재를 분석하였다. 교재 분석을 통하여 분석 대상 교재가 여성결혼이민자라는 학습자를 지나치게 의식한 나머지 교재의 학습 내용이 균형 있게 다루어지지 못하고, 특정 부분에 치중되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 즉 교재 안에서 다루고 있는 주제나 상황, 기능 등이 폭넓게 다루어지지 못한 채 협소한 범위에 머물러 있거나, 학습 활동 또한 다양한 유형 제시 측면에서 부족함이 드러나고, 타 영역과의 통합 활동은 거의 이루어지지 않고 있다는 점을 발견하였다.
그리고 여성결혼이민자 대상 독학용 한국어 교재를 개발하기 위한 두 번째 절차로, 여성결혼이민자 학습자들을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 설문 조사를 통하여 대다수 여성결혼이민자들이 한국어 수업과는 별도로 가정에서도 독학용 교재로 한국어를 공부하기를 희망하고 있으며, 독학용 한국어 교재에 대한 높은 관심과 요구를 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 학습자들이 한국어 학습 시 어려움을 느끼고 혼자 공부할 때 가장 도움이 필요하다고 생각하는 요소, 교육 내용에 포함되어야 할 주제를 비롯한 여러 가지 항목들을 파악하였다.
이렇게 여성결혼이민자의 학습자적 특성을 규정하고, 교재 분석과 학습자 요구 분석을 통하여 학습자가 필요로 하는 교육 내용을 도출하였다. 이어서 여성결혼이민자 대상 독학용 한국어 교재 개발을 위한 교수요목을 설계하여, 최종적으로 교재의 단원 구성의 실제를 제시하였다.
