이 논문은 최초의 다문화 중등학습자 전용 교재인 [중학생을 위한 표준 한국어]의 특징을 분석하고 그 개선 방안을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다.
1장에서는 연구의 필요성과 흐름, 방법 등을 밝히고, 연구와 관련된 선행 연구를 검토하여 요약 제시하였다. 2장에서는 교재 분석을 위한 이론적 배경으로 한국어 교재에 대한 선행 연구를 바탕으로 중등학습자를 위한 한국어 교재의 구성 원리를 제시하였고, 교재 분석 항목을 제시하였다. 3장에서는 [중학생을 위한 표준 한국어]를 외적 구성과 내적 구성으로 나누어 분석하였다. 외적 구성 분석에서는 서지 정보, 일러두기, 교재 표지 삽화 등을 분석하였으며, 내적 구성 분석에서는 단원별 주제, 언어 기능 활동, 문화 항목 등을 분석하였다. 4장에서는 3장의 내적 구성 분석 항목과 연결하여 다섯 가지의 교재 개선 방안을 제시하였다.
첫째, 현재 학습 한국어 능력 향상과 직결되는 교과 학습 관련 기능 활동은 [표준 한국어] 2권에 집중되어 있다. 2권과 비중과 난이도 차이를 두더라도 [표준 한국어] 1권에도 교과 학습을 돕기 위한 기능 활동과 교과 학습 관련 어휘를 제시해야 할 것이다.
둘째, [표준 한국어] 2권의 교과 학습 관련 언어 기능 활동(읽고 써 봐요)에서 단순한 사실 확인 유형 외에 다양한 유형의 읽기 후 활동을 제시하여야 할 것이다.
셋째, [표준 한국어] 교재 내 언어 기능 통합(연계) 활동 유형의 쏠림 현상을 개선하고, 1권과 2권 모두 다양한 유형의 기능 통합(연계) 활동을 제시하여야 한다.
넷째, [표준 한국어]에서 한국 문화를 소개하는 한편 다른 나라의 문화도 소개하고, 모두 동등한 문화임을 가르쳐야 한다.
다섯째, [표준 한국어] 교재의 성공적인 교수-학습을 도모하고 학습자의 학습 부담을 줄이기 위한 훌륭한 교사용 지침서 및 학습자용 워크북이 개발되어야 한다. 현재 교재 분량상의 제약으로 인해 충분한 문법 연습이 제시되고 있지 않고, ‘동사 표’ 및 시각 자료도 부족한 편이다. 그러므로 워크북이 이를 보완해주어야 한다. 또한 교사용 지침서에도 한국 언어문화에 대한 내용을 비롯하여 필요한 내용을 수록하여 성공적인 교수-학습을 이끌어내는 데 도움이 되어야 할 것이다.
5장에서는 이 논문의 내용을 요약 정리하였으며, [중학생을 위한 표준 한국어]의 출간에 만족하지 않고 교재를 잘 활용하기 위한 환경을 조성하기 위해 노력할 것을 제언하였다.
이 연구는 국가 수준의 [한국어] 교육과정을 반영하여 최초로 출간된 교재인 [중학생을 위한 표준 한국어]를 분석하고, 그 개선 방안을 도출한 것에 그 의의를 둘 수 있다. 이 논문의 연구 결과가 [표준 한국어] 교재가 개선되고 일선 학교에서 잘 활용되는 데 작은 도움이 되기를 바란다. 또한 [표준 한국어] 교재와 관련한 후속 연구가 이어지고, 점차 늘어나는 다문화 가정 10대 청소년들을 위한 한국어 교육도 나날이 발전하기를 기대한다.

This study searches the methods of improving Korean textbooks for secondary students of multicultural background based on analyzing the Korean teaching materials. : “Standard Korean Language”
Chapter 1 explained the purpose and flow of the study and files the precedent studies. In chapter 2, this article drew a constituting principle of the Korean teaching materials for secondary students from the advanced research. This study also set-up criteria of Korean textbook analysis in the same chapter.
Chapter 3 analyzed the “Standard Korean Language” for secondary students of multicultural background with internal and external composition. In chapter 4, this article suggested several improvements on the teaching materials based on the results of the analysis from Chapter 3.
First, Language functional activities related to subject learning are presently only concentrated in volume 2 of “Standard Korean Language”. Although the importance and difficulties are different in between volume 1 and volume 2, functional activities to help the subject learning and vocabulary related to subject learning should be presented in volume 1 of “Standard Korean Language”.
Second, language functional activities (reading and writing) related to subject learning in volume 2 of “Standard Korean Language” should present the various types of 'after reading activities'.(including writing.)
Third, tipping effects of language functional integration (linkage) activity type should be improved in material of “Standard Korean Language” and functional integration (linkage) activity of various types in volumes 1 and 2 should be presented.
Fourth, “Standard Korean Language” should not only introduce Korean culture, but it should also introduce culture of other countries (culture of home country of learners who have multicultural background) and teach that all cultures are equal.
Finally, for the successful teaching-learning, teachers' guide and learners' workbook are have to be made.
Chapter 5 proposed that we should make efforts to establish the environment to utilize these teaching materials well while we are not satisfied with the publication of “Standard Korean Language for secondary students”.
Since this study analyzed “Standard Korean Language for secondary students” which was the first published textbook reflecting the curriculum of “Korean Language” at national level and derived the improvement measures, it was significant. I hope the results of this study will be of help to improve “Standard Korean Language” teaching materials and be well utilized in schools. In addition, I also hope that follow-up studies related to “Standard Korean Language” will be continued and education of Korean Language for the adolescents from multicultural family will be developed day by day.
