이 논문 목적은 한국어 번안 뮤지컬 <지하철 1호선>공연에서 가창자의 발음이 청중에게 전달될 때 청취 장애를 일으킬 수 있는 음성학적 문제점을 고찰하고, 그 해결책을 제시하는 데에 ... 이 논문 목적은 한국어 번안 뮤지컬 <지하철 1호선>공연에서 가창자의 발음이 청중에게 전달될 때 청취 장애를 일으킬 수 있는 음성학적 문제점을 고찰하고, 그 해결책을 제시하는 데에 있다. 뮤지컬에서 노래는 앞 장면(일반 대사) 연장선상에 있으며 연극 전체에서 가장 중요한 부분 또는 최고점을 차지하기도 한다. 이 때 관객이 노래 가사를 이해할 수 없거나 잘 못 받아들인다면 공감하기 어려운 상황이 벌어져 극 효과는 감소되고 만다. 특히 아름다운 음악성이 이루어지는 소리는 명료한 발음을 때로는 매우 힘들게 만들기도 한다. 이에 논자는 뮤지컬 노래에 나타나는 가사 전달문제에 대한 연구가 필요함을 깨닫고 탐구하게 되었다. 한국어는 이른바 장운언어(長韻言語/chrone language)로서 모음길이에 따라 뜻이 달라지기 때문에 (보통 말씨에서나 노랫말에서나) 이에 대한 깊은 연구가 필요하다고 본다. 가사를 악보에 맞추다 보면 모음길이가 잘 지켜지지 않을 때가 많아서 그 의미가 제대로 전달되지 않기 때문이다. 정확한 모음이 가사전달을 위한 중심적 요소임을 인식하고, 그 중에서도 특히 모음길이와 뜻 구별이 관련된 부분을 자세히 다루었다. 뮤지컬 <지하철 1호선>에서 가사 전달문제를 고찰하면, 주로 모음길이와 박자가 잘 못 배정되어 있는 곳에서 발생하였다. 이런 문제는 노래가 처음 만들어지는 단계에서 다루어졌어야 할 점과, 이왕 만들어진 노래에서 배우 개인의 기량으로 다루어야 할 점, 이렇게 두 측면으로 살펴보았다. 즉, 작사와 작곡 및 편곡 단계에서 장단음을 지켜서 가사와 리듬을 맞추는 것이 가장 이상적일 것으로 보고 그 점을 제안하였다. 그러나 이미 주어진 대본을 가지고 악보대로 노래 부르면 가사와 리듬을 맞추기 어려울 경우, 가사 전달 책임은 (관객과 가장 가까운 곳에서 내용을 전달하는) 배우에게 있을 것이다. 따라서 문제점을 배우의 개인적인 기량으로 최대한 해결할 수 있는 방법까지 제시해 보았다. 한 나라 국민은 일상생활에서 사용하는 언어가 서로 일치하면 저절로 일체감을 느끼고 협동을 원활하게 이룰 수 있다고 한다. 배우의 명확한 발음은 관객에게 공연을 보는 즐거움 뿐 아니라, 국민 동질감을 조성하는 데에 크게 기여하는 표준적/중립적 발음을 보급하는 역할까지 할 수 있다. 그러므로 뮤지컬 배우는 노래를 부를 때 가장 아름다운 음악성을 유지하면서도 (모음, 자음, 특히 모음길이를) 정확하고 명료하게 발음할 수 있도록 힘쓰는 것을 뜻 깊은 사명으로 알면 좋을 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to discuss some phonetic problems of the performer’s pronunciation in the performance of the musical <Underground Line 1> translated into Korean. Words or phrases difficult for the audience to understand in the performance will be discussed with solutions of the problems suggested. In musicals, songs are often the most important part. When a performer’s pronunciation is not clearly understood by the audience, the composer’s intent is not realized and dramatic impact is not maximized. This is especially true when a performer sacrifices enunciation for the beauty of the tone of a high note. For this reason, this study focuses on addressing problems in delivering messages in the songs of musicals. Standard Korean requires special attention in vowels since it is a chrone language in which the meaning of words may change according to the length of the vowel. When there are length discrepancies between the musical note and the vowels of the song word it can cause audience's misunderstanding. This study identifies possible sources of vowel length confusion and focuses on ensuring that the intended message is delivered. This study identifies where the correct length of vowel and that of the note do not match in the lyrics of the musical <Underground Line 1>. Once identified, the problem is viewed from two aspects: how the composer considered delivering the song words, and how the performer must adjust in order to preserve the intended meaning. Language can unify people in a society and build closer cooperation among them. Performer’s proper diction can intensify audience’s pleasure and the same(standard) pronunciation can build a special bond between the performer and audience.
