This study was operated for teaching Korean vowel pronunciation to Chinese learners learning Korean language as a foreign language.
The purpose of this study is to suggest a teaching plan which can induce correct Korean vowel pronunciation. This would be done by a contrastive analysis between Korean and Chinese vowel systems, using its result to predict errors which Chinese learners often produce while learning Korean pronunciation, and correcting the errors effectively based on the contrastive linguistics knowledge.
This thesis is constructed as following.
Chapter Ⅰ explains about the purpose, methods and preceding studies of this study.
Chapter Ⅱ investigates on the concepts of the CAH(contrastive analysis hypothesis) which became the theoretical background of this study, points of the CAH and the relativity of the CAH to the pronunciation pedagogy.
Chapter Ⅲ analyzes Korean and Chinese vowel systems based on the phonetics, and contrasts two vowel systems. Vowels of Korean and Chinese were classified by the height and position of the tongue, and the shape of the lips. Similarities and distinctions of two vowel systems were described to predict errors of Chinese learners.
Chapter Ⅳ researches on the difficulties of Korean vowels among the Chinese learners, and analyzes the actual condition of vowel pronunciation to derive vowels which has high frequency of producing errors. Based on the analysis, learners' recognition of the difficulties, prediction of the errors, and the relativity of the errors to the prediction in real speaking were studied. Error analysis discovered types and causes of the errors to form the base of effective pronunciation pedagogy with less errors. Teaching plan explained place of articulation and manner of articulation to help learners in acquiring accurate phonetic value of each vowels, based on the contrast between Korean and Chinese. Also, pronunciation practicing method using minimal pair was suggested.
Pronunciation errors of Chinese learners are mostly produced by the interference of native language, and the lack of accurate recognition on place and manner of articulation. Therefore, this study, based on the CHA, is considered as a sufficient measure for improving errors of Chinese learners while teaching Korean pronunciation.

본 연구는 외국어로서 한국어를 학습하는 중국인 화자를 위한 효과적인 모음 교육 방안을 모색하고자 진행하였다.
대조언어학적 관점에서 한국어와 중국어의 모음 체계를 대조 분석하여 그 결과를 중국인 학습자의 발음 교육에 활용함으로써 한국어 발음을 학습할 때 나타나는 문제점을 예측하여 오류를 방지하고, 이미 나타난 오류에 대해서는 대조언어학적 지식을 바탕으로 효과적으로 수정하여 정확한 한국어 모음 발음을 유도해내기 위한 교수 방안을 제시하는 데에 목적을 둔다.
본 논문의 구성은 다음과 같다.
Ⅰ장에서는 한국어와 중국어의 음소를 대조 분석하여 한국어 발음 교수 방안을 모색하고자 하는 본 연구의 목적, 선행연구 그리고 방법에 대해 기술했다.
Ⅱ장에서는 본 연구의 이론적 배경이 되는 대조분석가설에 대하여 살펴보았다. 대조분석가설의 전반적인 개념 및 특징, 문제점 등에 대하여 살펴보았는데, 대조분석가설은 많은 문제점에도 불구하고 학습자의 오류를 설명할 수 있는 방법이 될 수 있으므로 외국어 교육에서 큰 의미가 있으며, 효율적인 발음교육을 위해서 교수자는 제2언어와 제1언어의 음운 체계의 유사점과 차이점을 파악하고, 학습자는 제2언어에 대한 언어적 지식을 갖추어 제1언어의 간섭을 줄일 수 있어야 한다.
Ⅲ장에서는 한국어와 중국어의 음소를 대조 분석하였다. 한국어와 중국어의 모음 체계를 연구․대조하여 중국어 모음과 유사한 한국어 모음과 중국어 모음에는 존재하지 않는 한국어 모음으로 나누어 살펴본 결과 한국어 모음의 /ㅓ, ㅗ, ㅡ, ㅔ, ㅐ/에 일치하는 중국어 모음이 없음을 알 수 있었으며, 이를 근거로 하여 중국인 학습자가 한국어 모음 학습 시 /ㅓ, ㅗ, ㅡ, ㅔ, ㅐ/와 관련된 모음 발화 시 오류가 발생할 것이라고 예측하였다.
Ⅳ장에서는 중국인 학습자들을 대상으로 한국어 모음에 대한 난이도 인식과 모음 발음 실태를 조사하였다. 이 조사 내용을 분석하여 학습자들의 난이도 인식과 오류 예측, 그리고 실제로 나타나는 오류가 일치하는지를 살펴보았는데, 학습자들의 난이도 인식과 오류 예측 사이에는 약간의 차이가 있었지만, 오류 예측과 실제 발화 시에 나타나는 오류는 거의 일치한다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 학습자들의 모음 발음 실태 분석을 통해 실제 발화 시에 나타나는 오류를 유형별로 나누어 정리하였으며, 오류가 나타나는 원인에 대해서도 분석해 보았는데, 중국인 학습자들의 발음 오류는 주로 모어 간섭과 조음 방법 및 조음 위치에 대한 정확한 인식의 부족으로 발생했다. 중국인 학습자들의 발음 오류를 근본적으로 방지하려면 한국어 발음에 대응되는 중국어 발음과 발음상의 차이를 이해하고 조음 방법과 조음 위치를 정확하게 터득하는 것이 가장 효과적인 방법이라고 할 수 있다. 마지막으로 연구 결과를 종합하여 중국인 학습자들에게 많이 나타나는 한국어 모음 발음 오류를 줄이기 위해서 조음음성학적 설명을 통한 발음 방법 지도 방안과 최소대립쌍을 이용한 발음 연습 지도 방안을 제시하였다.
본 연구는 중국인 학습자의 실제 발화 시에 나타나는 오류를 분석하고, 그에 따른 효과적인 수정 방안을 모색하였기 때문에 중국인 학습자의 한국어 발음 교육상의 문제점을 개선하는 데에 어느 정도 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
