제 2언어 습득에서 가장 어려운 부분은 목표 언어의 발음 습득에 관한 것이라는 사실은 널리 알려져 있다. 그러므로 본 논문의 목적은 첫째 한국어에 존재하는 영어 차용어를 음향음성학적으로 분석하는 것이고, 둘째 영어 차용어에 대한 한국인과 원어민의 발음을 비교하는 것이며, 셋째 한국인이 어떠한 유형의 오류를 보이는지 살펴보는 것이다.
차용어 발화시 한국어에 없는 소리로 인한 오류를 보기 위해, 음성구동기간(voice onset time), 폐쇄구간(closure duration), 마찰구간을 살펴보았고, 한국어와 영어의 음절체계의 차이로 인한 오류를 보고자, 차용어 발화시 모음의 포먼트가 나타나는지 안 나타나는지를 살펴보았으며, 철자에 근거한 발음으로 인한 오류는 해당 모음의 첫 번째 포먼트(F1)와 두 번째 포먼트(F2)의 시작점과 끝점을 살펴보았다.
세 가지의 오류형태 중 한국인이 가장 어려워하는 오류를 살펴보고자 한국인 학생 20명과 원어민 3명의 발음을 녹음한 후, 음성분석 프로그램 “praat"을 통해 비교 ․ 분석하였다. 실험 결과 한국인이 영어차용어 발화시 가장 어려워하는 발음은 한국어에는 없는 소리로 인한 오류였다.
결과적으로 모국어와 목표어를 비교해 보았을 때, 영어의 서로 다른 음절체계로 인해 발음의 차이를 보이는 것이나 모음체계의 차이로 인한 발음의 차이보다는, 자음체계의 차이로 인해서 생기는 발음이 더 습득하기 어려운 것으로 나타났다.

It is well-known that the most difficult part in learning a second language is to acquire the pronunciation of the target language. Thus, the main purposes of this thesis are (1) to acoustically analyze English loanwords in Korean; (2) to compare Korean speakers' pronunciation of English words corresponding to English loanwords in Korean with native speakers' pronunciation of them; (3) to figure out what kind of error pattern do Korean speakers' show.
As for the first type of error, I measured VOT(voice onset time), CD(closure duration), Friction(the duration of friction noise). With regard to the second type of error, I examined whether the vowel formants appear or not. The third type of error is examined by measuring and comparing the first and the second formants of the onset as well as offset of the target vowels.
In order to find out which type is the most difficult one for Koreans to acquire, twenty Korean students were selected and divided into two groups according to English proficiency. Their pronunciation of words was recorded and compared with that of native speakers by means of a speech analysis program, "praat".
According to the result of this study, Korean speakers showed the worst performance in pronouncing non-existent English consonants in Korean.
Therefore we can conclude that the pronunciation of consonants is more difficult for Korean learners of English to acquire than the pronunciation of vowels and the pronunciation caused by different syllable structures.
