본 연구는 한국에 유학온 학습자들이 그들의 유학 생활 중에서 가장 불안한 시기라고 할 수 있는 유학 생활 초기에 생활에 바로 활용할 만한 책이 없다는 점을 문제점으로 여기고, 유학생들이 한국 생활에서 바로 활용할 수 있는 한국어 어휘 교재를 개발하기 위하여 단원 및 어휘를 구성, 제시하였다.
본고는 한국어 학습자들 중 한국 생활 초기에 해당하는 학습자들을 대상으로 하기에 한국어와 영어 등 학습자 모국어 또는 선수 학습된 언어를 사용하여 일대일로 구성하였다. 또한 본고는 단기간에 문법과 어휘를 외워 활용하는 것을 목표로 연구한 것이 아니라 생활 속에서 필요한 어휘와 표현들을 말함으로써 의사소통에 도움이 되는 한국어 어휘 교재를 개발하는 것을 목표로 하였다.
본고는 전체 6장으로 구성되어 있으며 주제와 어휘 선정은 다른 어휘 교재와 「한국어 학습용 어휘 목록」을 참고로 하였다.
2장에서는 어휘 교육의 내용과 방법을 살펴보았다.
3장에서는 본 연구가 필요한 것인지를 검증하기 위하여 학습자들이 교재와 의사소통에 대해 어떠한 생각을 가지고 있는지를 조사하였다.
4장에서는 초기 한국어 학습자를 위한 어휘 교재 개별을 위하여 단원과 어휘 선정을 하였다.
5장에서는 4장에서 얻어진 결과를 바탕으로 한국 생활 초기에 해당하는 학습자들이 유용하게 활용할 수 있는 교재를 구성하여 보았다.
본 연구는 목표 언어인 한국어, 특히 어휘를 단편적으로 외워서 사용하는 것이 아니라 학습자의 요구에 맞게 한국인과의 의사소통 안에서 활용과 표현을 하면서 자연스럽게 어휘를 학습하고 습득하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

With the recognition of the problem that there are few books helpful for foreign students who have been just begun studying in Korea, this study composed and presented units and vocabulary for a Korean language vocabulary book that foreign students could utilize in their life in Korea.
As this study targeted foreign students who had been in Korea for a short period, one-to-one composition between Korean language and the learners' mother tongue or other languages they had acquired was presented as a principle. In addition, this study did not urge students to memorize and utilize grammar and vocabulary over a short period. Instead, its aim was to develop a Korean vocabulary textbook that encourages students to learn to speak using vocabulary and expressions frequently used in real life to aid with communication.
This study consisted of six chapters. Topics and vocabulary were selected in reference with other vocabulary books and the 「Vocabulary List for Studying Korean」.
In chapter two, the concepts of vocabulary and the content and method of vocabulary education were discussed.
In chapter three, for the verification of the necessity of this research, an examination was carried out to see the opinions of Chinese and Vietnamese students learning Korean in Korea regarding language books and communication.
In chapter four, for the development of the Korean vocabulary book for beginner learners of Korean, the existing Korean vocabulary books and English and French vocabulary books were compared and analyzed. Based on this, units of the book were selected and then the composition of the units and selection of vocabulary was carried out through a survey of the language learners.
Chapter five was based on the results gained in chapter four. In this chapter, the composition of units of the Korean vocabulary book to be utilized for Korean communication and expressions was suggested for the aid of language learners who have just begun their studies in Korea.
