본 연구는 한국의 대학에서 학부 과정을 이수하고 있는 외국인 유학생들이 작성한 글쓰기 자료를 분석하여 부사절 사용 양상을 분석하고, 부사절을 적절하게 사용하고 있는지를 논의하였다... 본 연구는 한국의 대학에서 학부 과정을 이수하고 있는 외국인 유학생들이 작성한 글쓰기 자료를 분석하여 부사절 사용 양상을 분석하고, 부사절을 적절하게 사용하고 있는지를 논의하였다. 계량적 분석을 통해 부사절을 이끄는 9개의 문법 형태가 어떤 선행성분과 결합하는지를 살펴보았다. 선행성분으로 어휘적 요소를 취하는 비율이 절 구성을 취하는 비율보다 근소하게 높았으며, 절 구성의 문장성분은 주로 ‘주어/서술어’ 구조처럼 비교적 단순한 구성을 보였다. 글쓰기 자료에서 나타나는 부사절의 오류 양상은 문법 형태를 정확하게 사용하지 못한 경우가 주를 이룬다. 하지만, 부사절 자체의 형태적, 통사적 오류가 없는데도 불구하고 부사절을 포함한 전체 문장이 심각한 오류를 가진 경우가 많았다. 부사절이 수식하는 대상이 없거나, 부사절과 복합문 전체의 의미적 호응이 제대로 이루어지지 않는 문제점이 발견되었다. 부사절을 구성하는 능력과 부사절을 다른 문장과 관계를 지어 사용하는 능력은 별개임을 보이는 증거라고 할 수 있다. 부사절을 이끄는 문법 형태의 문법적 특성에 초점을 둔 교육과 학습이 효율성이 있는지 의문을 가질 필요가 있다. 나아가서 부사절의 본질적 기능인 수식의 기능과 복합문 구성 기제로서의 기능을 고려한 교육과 학습을 고려할 필요가 있다.

This study checks up the aspects of combination of 9 kinds of grammar items included in adverbial clauses and precedent items in order to analyze the appropriacy of adverbial clauses in s written by foreign undergraduate students. The lexical items are frequently used as the precedent items. Also, clauses as the precedent items are mostly composed of simple structures like ‘subject/predicate.’ In addition, the inadequacies of grammar items are mostly shown in adverbial clauses. Though morphological errors or syntactical errors in adverbial clause do not appears, overall and serious errors in sentence including the adverbial clauses often appear. This study shows that the ability of making adverbial clauses and ability of combining the adverbial clauses and other clauses are different. The adverbial clause functions as the modification and the mechanism for making the complex sentences.
