This study examined the effect of korean language ability on the adjustment of foreign workers in Korea. According to pre-studies, Korean linguistic ability are very important factors on adjustment to foreign workers and multicultural families in Korea.
The purpose of this study is suggest imprecation for educational support to foreign workers. Relate to this research purpose, research problems are as follows.
First, how much relations between the self percept of Korean linguistic ability and tested one?
Second, are there any significance relations between Korean linguistic ability and life adjustment?
Third, which linguistic abilities(self percept Korean linguistic ability, speaking ability, writing ability, and synthetic ability) are most effect to life adjustment of foreign workers living in Korea?
The explore these research problems, survey on 'The questionnaire of life adjustment' and test of Korea linguistic ability include writing and speaking of 65 foreign workers living in Jeonbuk, and the data was statistical analysis such as correlation coefficient analysis, t-test, multiple regression analysis.
The results are as follows;
First, there are relatively low relations between self percept Korean linguistic ability and tested one(percept ability and tested speaking ability is r=.413, percept ability and tested writing ability is r=.399.
Second, high level group on Korean speaking ability are more effectively adjustment to Korea life.
Third, high level group on Korean writing ability are somewhat low effect on the adjustment to Korea life.
In conclusion, this study introduced suggestions to help in the adjustment among foreign workers living in Korea. That is a linguistic ability, especially speaking ability is significantly effect to life adjustment of foreign workers.

이 연구의 목적은 외국인 근로자의 한국어 사용능력이 한국생활에 적응하는 데 어느 정도 영향을 미치는가를 파악하여 그들의 한국생활 적응도를 높이는 데 요구되는 한국어 교육의 방향을 모색해 보려는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 현재 I시 다문화교육지원센터에 등록하여 한국어를 공부하고 있는 외국인 근로자 65명을 대상으로 한국어 능력을 본인이 지각하는 한국어 능력, 한국어 말하기 능력, 한국어 이해 및 쓰기 능력, 그리고 이해 및 쓰기와 말하기를 통합한 한국어 능력 등 4가지 요소로 구분하여 한국어 능력을 측정하고, 구조화 된 생활적응 척도를 실시한 후 자료를 분석하였다.
연구를 통하여 나타난 중요한 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 외국인 근로자가 지각한 한국어 능력과 측정된 한국어 능력 간에는 지각한 능력-말하기 능력 r=.413, 지각한 능력과 이해 및 쓰기 능력 간 r=.399, 지각한 능력과 한국어 능력 전체 간 r=.441 등으로 나타났다. 또 말하기 능력과 이해 및 쓰기 능력 간에는 r=.685, 말하기 능력과 한국어 능력 전체 간에는 r=.933, 이해 및 쓰기 능력과 한국어 능력 전체 간은 r=.902로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 외국인 근로자들은 자신들의 실제 한국어 능력보다 스스로를 한국어를 잘 한다고 생각하는 경향이 있음을 시사한다.
둘째, 외국인 근로자의 한국어 말하기 능력 수준에 따라서 생활적응도는 차이가 있다. 즉, 외국인 근로자들은 한국어 말하기 능력이 우수한 경우 수업적응, 동료관계 적응, 교사관계 적응, 사회규범 적응 등에서 보다 높은 점수를 나타내었다. 그러나 정서심리 적응 영역에서는 한국어 말하기 능력 상/하 집단 간 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다.
셋째, 외국인 근로자의 한국어 이해 및 쓰기 능력 수준에 따른 생활적응도는 수업적응, 동료관계 적응, 사회규범 적응 등에서 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 즉 이들 3영역의 생활적응도가 이해 및 쓰기 능력이 우수한 외국인 근로자들이 더 높았다. 그러나 교사관계 적응과 정서심리 적응 영역에서는 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다.
넷째, 외국인 근로자의 한국어 능력 네 요소(지각한 능력, 말하기 능력, 이해 및 쓰기 능력, 측정된 능력)들이 생활적응에 미치는 영향은 ‘말하기 능력’ 만이 유의한 영향을 미치며, 다른 요인들의 영향력은 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 또 한국 거주 기간이 길수록 생활적응도는 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 연령이나 한국어를 학습한 기간 등은 생활적응에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
