정보 소통과 유통이 이 시대의 가장 큰 화두로 여겨지고 있는 이 시점에서, 의사소통중심의 영어교육이 중요시되고 있다. 정확한 의사소통을 위해서는 정확한 발음을 필요로 한다.
이러한 맥락에서, 이 논문에서는 경상도 지역의 학생들을 대상으로 한 실험을 통해 경상 방언이 영어단어의 강세 습득에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 연구하였다. 특히나 경상 방언은 고유의 강세적 특징이 강하기 때문에 영어 단어의 발음에 많은 영향을 준다. 본 논문의 연구방법은 총5명의 기초수준의 경상화자들을 대상으로 정해진 실험데이터인 영어단어를 발음하게 하여 그것을 프랏(praat)으로 분석하였다.
그 결과, 영어 단어의 강세와 동일한 단어는 주로 어말이 경음절로 끝나는 단어들이 대부분이었으며, 그 이유는 영어와 경상방언 강세의 동일한 규칙인 끝에서 끝앞음절에 강세를 두기 때문인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이러한 경상방언의 기본성조유형인 끝에서 두 번째 음절에 강세를 두는 특징은 특히나 영어 2음절 단어 같은 짧은 단어들에서는 아주 긍정적인 영향을 주고 있음을 알 수 있었고 경상방언이 가지는 고유의 높은 피치와 강세의 특징이 영어 단어의 발음에 긍정적 영향을 가져다주었다. 또한 영어에는 없는 모음인 ‘ ɨ ’ 모음의 첨가로 인한 단어의 음절수 변화를 일으키는 오류가 발견되기도 하였다.
이러한 다양한 경상 방언의 특징들이 영어 단어의 강세 습득에 미치는 영향에 대한 본 논문의 연구가 경상도 화자들의 영어 교육 현장에 큰 도움이 되길 바라며, 또한, 영어 교육 현장에서 영어 단어의 강세의 중요성을 일깨우는데 신선한 자극이 되었으면 하는 바람이다.

In this age, distribution of the information and communication is the biggest topic. So the communication-oriented English education is very important. And the correct communication needs to the correct pronunciation.
In this , I studied the effect of kyung-sang dialect on the english word stress acquisition. Because the characteristics of kyung-sang dialect are very strong so that they gives a lot of influence on the english word stress.
I have chosen five people who are kyung-sang people and they were pronounced the english words. And then I was recording their pronunciation and I was analyzed the data using 'praat'.
As a result, the same stress words between english and kyung-sang dialect are finished light syllable on the last syllable. I found the same rule between english and kyung-sang dialect, that is "When the word finish light syllable, the stress is on the penultimate syllable all the time". This rule give positive influence to english word pronunciation. And kyung-sang dialect have high pitch on the stress. They are more higher than standard dialect in korea. It is close to pitch of English's stress. And I found the negative effect, that is the ‘ɨ’ vowel. The people of using kyung-sang dialect are added the ‘ɨ’ vowel in english word, so they are changing the number of syllable.
I hope, these various effects of kyung-sang dialect on the english word stress acquisition are to be helpful to the field of education. Further, I hope this give a fresh shock to the students and teacher, and I hope they realize the importance of English word stress.
