본 연구는 한국어를 배우는 고급 학습자를 대상으로 학습자가 시를 통해 한국의 문화를 이해하고 시를 음미․향유하여 우리 민족의 정서와 문화를 학습할 수 있도록 하는 데 목표가 있다. 시는 한국인의 사회 역사, 예술 문화 및 정서와 닿아 있어서 학습자가 시를 통해 한국의 문화를 이해하는 데 적절하게 활용할 수 있다. 시를 활용한 한국어 이해 교육에서도 정서를 교육하는데 초점을 두고 구체적으로 시의 정서 교육을 어떻게 교수․학습할 것인지에 관한 방향을 제시할 것이다.
한국과 다른 문화 환경에 놓인 외국인 학습자에게 언어와 문화, 문학 본연의 목표를 통합할 수 있는 문학작품의 정서 교육은 한국어 교육에서 문학작품을 교육하는 목표가 될 수 있다. 문학 교육을 함에 있어서 현재 ‘시’의 활용이 저조하지만 ‘시’는 자질과 그 가능성이 충분하다고 할 수 있다. 교사의 자질과 학습자의 동기만 잘 이루어져 있다면, ‘시’는 문학 교육에 충분히 활용할 수 있다.
정서 언어를 대표하는 시는 독자들로 하여금 시적 맥락과 상황에 따라 작품 안에서 생략되고 함축된 의미들을 독자의 상상력으로 증폭시키면서 의미를 무한정 확장시키는 기능을 한다. 그렇기 때문에 한 편의 시를 감상한다는 것은 독자들의 경험과 사고를 반영한 심미적이고 경험적인 시적 의미를 수용하는 작업이 될 수 있다.시를 통해 한국어에 대한 언어와 문화 능력을 향상시킬 뿐만 아니라 시를 단지 학습의 도구로만 생각하기보다 개인의 생각과 관점을 적용하여 자신의 것으로 받아들이는 과정이 될 수 있도록 하는 것이다.
본 연구는 학습자가 한국의 시를 이해하고 음미하여 한국인의 정서를 향유할 수 있도록 이끌어 주기 위한 교수․학습 방안을 구축했다는 점이 의의라고 할 수 있다.시를 활용한 정서 교육에 대한 연구가 미비한 상황에서 앞으로 실제 외국어로서의 한국어 교육의 현장에서 시를 활용한 수업이 적용 가능한 가치를 인정받아 보다 다양한 각도에서 관찰하는 연구들이 더욱 활발하게 이루어질 수 있기를 기대해본다.

The purpose of this study is to help advanced learners of Korean to learn our national emotion and culture by understanding Korean culture through poetry and also appreciating and enjoying poetry. As our poetry is associated with Korean society, history, arts, culture, and emotion as well, it can be properly utilized when learners try to understand Korean culture through poetry. Focusing on how to teach emotion in education to understand Korean through poetry, this study will suggest methods to teach and learn emotion in poetry in detail.
Education of emotion with literary works that can integrate the original goal of literature with language and culture for foreign learners in cultural environment different from what we have in Korea can be the goal of teaching literary works in Korean education. In literature education, ‘poetry’ is not being used frequently, but in fact, ‘poetry’ has qualities to support that. ‘Poetry’ has great potentials for that. Provided that the teacher has qualities for it and the learners are well motivated, ‘poetry’ can be properly used in literature education.
Poetry that represents language of emotion is often omitted by readers in the works according to the poetic context or situation, and the implied meaning plays roles in amplifying the meaning with the readers’ imagination and extending the meaning to the fullest. Therefore, appreciating a piece of poem can be a task to accept aesthetic and empirical, poetic meaning that reflects the readers’ experience as well as thought. It is meant to improve their skills about Korean language and culture through poetry and also create a process that they can accept the poetry as theirs by applying their own thought and viewpoint instead of regarding it just as a tool for learning.
This study is significant in that it has established teaching-learning methods that can lead learners to understand and appreciate Korean poetry and then enjoy Korean emotion with that. The still lacks in some ways, but it is expected that in this situation that researches on education of emotion using poetry are not enough, follow-up researches will be actively conducted afterwards as class using poetry is recognized to be valuable in its applicability in the field of teaching Korean as a foreign language and is examined multilaterally.
