The purpose of this study is to propose a model of a Korean text from the perspectives of the concept ‘language and culture’ based on a critical review of the current short-term courses in Korean language programs and their textbooks.
Despite the numerical increase of Korean-learners of the short-term courses, still the development of teaching materials that are fit for the various demands and purposes of learners is not enough. The reason is that most of the current developed Korean textbooks are designed for the regular courses.
The Korean education centers and Korean institutes have managed the short-term courses edit shorter or copy Korean texts for the regular course and sometimes make temporary textbooks. There is almost no textbooks developed for the short-term courses.
The purpose and motive of learners on the short-term courses is to use and experience Korean and Korean culture on real communication situation for about three weeks. Therefore the short-term courses possess the characteristics that has to teach intensively what learners just need practically and efficiently.
This study focuses on how the education of language and culture concept is reflected in the short-term courses.
First of all, I analyzed the present state of things in Korean education centers and Korean institutes focusing on how they managed the short-term courses and discussed importance and characteristics about the short-term courses.
I discussed language and culture education and language and culture textbooks in general for teaching both Korean and Korean culture efficiently on short time.
For making language and culture textbooks of Korean for the short-term courses, I analyzed a textbook of Korean for the short-term courses and discussed problems and errors in that textbook. Moreover I set up language and culture categories for language and culture education content and discussed guidelines for developing language and culture textbooks on the short-term courses.
Finally I presented a syllabus model and two units for showing practical plan of a language and culture textbooks for the short-term courses.

본 논문은 다양한 한국어 교육 프로그램 중에서 현재 그 수요가 급증하고 있는 단기 과정 한국어 교육에 관한 연구의 필요성을 제안하고, 효율적인 단기 한국어 교육을 위해 언어문화 교육을 논하며 언어문화 교재 개발 방안을 모색하고자 한다.
현재 한국어 단기 과정은 한국의 국제적 위상과 한류 등의 영향으로 한국어와 한국 문화에 대해 긍정적인 태도와 관심을 가지는 학습자들이 날로 증가하고 있다. 이들 학습자들은 보통 3, 4주 이내의 기간을 두고 한국에 체류하며 한국어와 한국 문화를 동시에 접하고자 한다. 그러나 단기 과정을 운영 중인 한국어 교육 기관에서는 정규 과정의 교재를 그대로 사용하거나 개작하여 교육하고 있는 실정이다.
본 논문은 단기 과정을 개설하고 있는 서울, 부산 소재 대학 부설 한국어 교육 기관과 사설 학원 교육 기관을 중심으로 단기 과정 운영 현황을 파악하여 한국어 교육에서 정규 과정만큼 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 단기 과정의 실태를 살피고, 단기 과정만의 의의를 밝혔다.
짧은 기간 안에 한국어와 한국 문화라는 두 가지 큰 과제를 동시에 수행해야 하는 단기 과정에서 그 효율성을 극대화시키기 위해 언어문화 교육으로 한국어 교육을 전환해야 함을 논의했다. 그 중에서도 언어문화 교재로 범위를 좁혀 일반적인 언어문화 교재 원리를 살폈다.
본 논문은 현재 출간된 단기 과정 교재를 분석하여 문제점과 보완점을 살피고, 한국어 초급 단기 과정을 위한 언어문화 교재 개발을 위해 언어문화 교재의 구성 상 특징과 언어문화 항목을 설정하여 교육 내용으로 삼았다.
마지막으로 단기 과정을 위한 언어문화 교재 교수요목 모형과 단원 모형을 제시하여 실제적인 교재 구성안을 보여주고자 하였다.
본 논문은 단기 과정을 위한 교육 과정과 교수-학습 방법, 교재 개발 등에 관한 연구가 부족한 현 시점에 언어문화 교육으로 접근하여 효율적인 단기 과정 교재를 모색하고자 한 점에 의의가 있을 것이다. 단기 과정에서의 언어문화 교육을 현행 한국어 교육 현장에 온전히 적용할 수 없다 하더라도 한국어 교육 연구의 일보 전진을 위해서 필요한 연구라고 본다.
