본 연구는 인간은 어떻게 언어를 학습하고 습득하는지에 대한 의문에서 시작하여 언어를 학습하는 방법인 언어 학습 전략을 중심으로 한국어 학습의 인지 과정을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
Ⅰ장에서는 연구의 필요성과 의의, 연구 내용 등을 살피며, 언어 학습 전략과 관련된 선행연구를 살펴보았다. 선행 연구는 한국어 학습 전략, 외국어 학습 전략으로 나누어 분석하였다.
Ⅱ장에서는 언어 학습 전략과 관련된 이론적 배경으로 인지이론과 언어 학습 전략에 대해 살펴보았다. 인지이론에서는 인지이론의 정의와 정보처리이론의 정의를 살펴보았다. 그리고 언어 학습 전략에서는 언어 학습 전략의 정의와 특성 분류체계 등을 살펴보았다.
Ⅲ장에서는 구체적인 연구 방법에 대해 제시하였다. 경희대학교와 연세대학교 재학 중인 중국인 대학원생 9명을 대상으로 한국어 학습 전략에 대한 설문을 실시하였다. 설문은 면접을 위한 도구로 설문 결과를 토대로 다시 심층 면접을 실시하였다. 면접결과는 녹음하여 자료를 정리하였으며, 또한 전략 일지 쓰기도 제안하여 그 내용을 자료로 정리하였다.
Ⅳ장에서는 설문지 조사, 면접 조사, 전략 일지 쓰기를 분석하여 한국어 학습자의 언어 학습 전략 양상과 인지 과정을 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 토대로 한국어 학습자들이 어떤 과정을 거쳐 한국어를 이해하고 습득하는지를 인지처리과정모델로 제시하였다.
Ⅴ장에서는 앞선 연구 결과를 정리하며 연구 결과를 바탕으로 한국어 교육에 대한 제언을 하였다.
본 연구를 통해 한국어 고급 학습자의 인지 과정은 정보접촉단계, 단기기억단계, 장기기억단계, 자유로운 인출 단계로 나누어 살펴 볼 수 있었다. 각 단계에서 상위 단계로 전이 발전되기 위해서는 전략 사용이 일어나며 전략 사용이 원활히 일어날 경우 학습자는 상위의 인지 단계로 발전하였다. 또한 상위 단계로 올라 갈 때 가장 유의미한 전략은 반복학습이라는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 반복에는 단순 반복, 체계적 반복, 체계적 반복의 지속이 있음을 관찰하였다. 다양한 한국어 매체를 활용하는 것이 한국어 학습에 매우 유의미함을 확인하였으며, 사회적 전략, 정의적 전략은 정보의 접촉 단계에서 주의집중과 지각을 원활히 하는 데에 도움이 되는 전략임을 확인 할 수 있었다. 그 이외에도 한국어 학습자의 전략 유형을 새롭게 밝혀내고 선행 연구의 전략 유형들을 더욱 세분화하였으며, 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 한국어 학습자를 위한 새로운 학습 전략 설문지를 작성하였다.

This theory starts from the question of how people can learn and acquire a language. Its purpose is to see the learning cognitive process that focuses on the language-study-strategy way of learning a language. Here are specific contents to accomplish this theory’s purpose.
Chapter 1, we are going to see the needs of this theory, meaning, contents and pre-studies related to language-study-strategy. Pre-studies are divided into Korean study strategy and foreign study strategy and analyzed.
Chapter 2, it shows cognitive theory and language study strategy as a theoretical background related to language-study-strategy. In cognitive theory, we will see the definition of cognitive theory and information process theory, then, carry out research on the cognitive theory based on language study strategy. In language study strategy, we will make a study of the definition of language study strategy and feature classification system.
Chapter 3, it suggests specific research ways. There was a survey about Korean study strategy to 9 Chinese graduate students of Kyung-hee University and Yon-sei University. The survey was a tool for interview, with the survey results, they had an advanced interview. In addition, they are suggested to write a journal about strategy.
In chapter 4, it analyzes the aspect of language study strategy and cognitive process by using the survey results, interview and journal. It shows the cognitive process model of how Korean learners understand and acquire Korean after going through certain processes based on the result of the research.
Chapter 5, it arranges the previous study result and is trying to find some ways to apply it to Korean education.
Through this study, Korean advanced learners’ cognitive process is divided into 4 steps: information contact, short-term memorizing, long-term memorizing and frequent output. In each step, it needs to use a strategy to go to the next step. If there are active uses of strategies, learners can go up to the next step and keep developing. In addition, it makes sure that the most meaningful strategy is the repetition – there are simple repetition, systematic repetition, maintenance of systematic repetition- to go to the next step. It confirms that using various Korean media is very meaningful to Korean Learning. Furthermore, it makes sure that social strategy and affective strategy encourage attention and cognition. Also, I am trying to find new strategy types of Korean Learners and split pre-studies into more details. In addition, a new study strategy questionnaire is being made for Korean learners based in the result of this theory.
