본 논문은 부산지역 소극장연극의 활성화를 위해 문화운동이라는 개념을 대안으로 삼고자 한다. 문화운동이란 인간이 정치·사회적 억압에서 벗어나 주체적으로 살아가기 위해 예술적 장... 본 논문은 부산지역 소극장연극의 활성화를 위해 문화운동이라는 개념을 대안으로 삼고자 한다. 문화운동이란 인간이 정치·사회적 억압에서 벗어나 주체적으로 살아가기 위해 예술적 장르를 매개로 하여 전개된 인간해방운동을 일컫는다. 문화운동은 제3세계 나라들을 시작으로 미국과 유럽을 거쳐 일본과 우리나라에까지 영향을 미쳤으며 이후 세계 각국에서 다양한 문화적 형태로 나타났다. 본고에서는 이러한 문화운동의 국내외 사례들을 간략하게 살펴보고 소극장 연극 운동의 흐름을 조사함으로써 문화운동이 소극장 연극을 통해 꾸준히 이어져 오고 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 과정에서 몇몇 부산지역 소극장연극 단체들의 활동들이 문화운동의 계보를 잇는 중요한 자리에 위치해 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그중에서도 변혁의 중심이었던 1980년대 중반, 부산지역에서 활동을 시작한 민족극 계열의 극단 자갈치와 새벽, 그리고 일터의 활동들을 조사하는 일은 문화운동적 차원에서 시사하는 바가 크다. 이들은 우리 사회 내부에 깃든 문제들을 꼬집고 변방에 위치한 소외된 민중들의 삶을 극화해 나갔으며 시대의 모순과 억압을 연극적으로 표현한 대표적 소극장 운동 단체들이라 할 수 있다. 더불어 이제 소극장은 대극장의 대안공간이 아닌 상업극 위주의 대극장과는 차별화되는 공연과 실험, 창작, 교육의 공간으로 거듭나고 있다. 오늘날의 소극장연극은 극장을 벗어난 개방된 공간-거리, 공원, 광장과 같은 열린 공간에서 더욱 다양한 형태로 변화·확장되어 나가고 있다. 본고에서는 2016년 현재 수도권을 포함한 지역의 곳곳에서 진행 중인 거리공연과 북콘서트, 집회와 시위마저도 참여연극의 한 갈래로 보고 있으며 문화운동이 소극장을 통해서 뿐만 아니라 다양한 공간에서 활발히 진행 중에 있음을 밝히고 있다. 연구자는 본 연구를 통하여 소극장 연극 운동이 인간의 자발적 참여가 가능한 모든 곳에서 문화를 매개로 하여 이루어지고 있음을 확인하였다.

Cultural movements have influenced Japan and Korea through the US, Europe, and the Third World, and have since emerged in various cultural forms around the world. In this , we examine the domestic cases of the cultural movement and investigated the flow of the theater movement in the small theater, and confirmed that the cultural movement has been steadily continuing through the theater. In this process, it was found that the activities of some small theater groups in Busan are located in the important place of genealogy of cultural movement. In the middle of the 1980s, the investigation of the activities of the theater companies like ‘Jagalchi’, ‘Saebyeok’ and ‘Ilteo’ of the national drama series that started their activities in the Busan area is highly suggestive from the cultural movement point of view. These are the representative small-scale theatrical organizations expressing the contradictions and oppression of the times in a dramatic way by pinpointing the problems in our society and polarizing the lives of the underground people in the far side. In addition, the small theater is now being transformed into a space for performing, experimenting, creating, and educating, which is different from the Grand Theater, which is not an alternative space of the Grand Theater, but a commercial theater. Today 's small theater plays are being transformed and expanded into many more forms in open spaces outside the theater - in open spaces such as streets, parks and plazas. In this , we are also seeing street performances, book concerts, rallies and protests in progress in different parts of the metropolitan area including the Metropolitan Area in 2016, and we are actively pursuing cultural activities not only through small theaters but also in open space.
